In this episode of the Fight Business Podcast, KSW CEO and co-owner Martin Lewandowski joins Patrick Auger and Michael Fiedel to break some important news regarding the promotion’s return.
Lewandowski confirms that KSW will return on July 11 with a title unification grudge match between Mateusz Gamrot and Norman Parke as the main event. Lewandowski also explains the current business challenges that the promotion is facing amid the COVID-19 pandemic. He labels the situation as a “complete disaster,” but is hopeful that a renewed business strategy that focuses on alternative revenue methods will help guide KSW for as long as the pandemic lasts.
Importantly, the KSW boss revealed that the biggest stars of the promotion are unlikely to compete this year and that they may be on the sidelines until crowds can once again attend live events. Lewandowski explains that booking the biggest names in fights right now would not be financially responsible as the promotion is set to lose a significant chunk of revenue.
Furthermore, where possible, the promotion is currently restructuring contracts with fighters to better reflect the current situation that the promotion faces. The KSW boss confirms that the upcoming PPV event will air on DAZN at a reduced price.
