Robbie Lawler speaks to the media at Sanford MMA's press day

Robbie Lawler will look to return to the win column this month.

The former UFC welterweight champion will step in for Geoff Neal to face Neil Magny in a welterweight bout at UFC Vegas 8 which takes place August 29.

Although it is not official yet, confirmation is expected soon with multiple reports confirming the fight booking.

Lawler is coming off three straight losses with his most recent one coming just over a year ago when he was outpointed by Colby Covington.

Although he will now be facing a step down in competition in Magny, who is ranked one spot below him at No. 14, Magny is still a formidable foe who has enjoyed a new lease of life since his last setback.

The 33-year-old bounced back from his 2018 knockout loss to Santiago Ponzinibbio with impressive unanimous decision wins over Li Jingliang and Anthony Rocco Martin in 2020 thus far. He will undoubtedly be looking to make it three in a row and further climb the rankings.

Oddsmakers seem to believe that is what will happen too as Magny is a slight favorite over Lawler.

You can check out the opening odds below:

  • Robbie Lawler: +120
  • Neil Magny: -154

That means you would have to bet $154 to win $100 on Magny, while a $100 stake on Lawler would net you $120 in profit.
