In the aftermath of UFC 296, Colby Covington remains steadfast and unapologetic about his controversial comments regarding Leon Edwards’ late father. Despite losing to Edwards in a unanimous decision, Covington’s post-fight demeanor was as defiant as ever.

Covington, known for his brash and often polarizing persona, had stirred up significant controversy in the lead-up to the fight with Edwards.

His remarks about Edwards’ father, who was murdered when Edwards was 13, drew widespread criticism. However, Covington showed no signs of remorse in his post-fight comments.

“Why would I have sympathy for a sex trafficker, someone who’s impacted and hurt a lot of people’s lives?” Covington questioned, doubling down on his previous statements.

He continued, “The truth always stings the worst in the world. So, no, I don’t feel bad about that at all.”

Covington’s comments at the press conference had deeply affected Edwards, who admitted to being emotionally hurt and struggling with the death of his father.

Yet, Covington remained unmoved, focusing instead on the alleged criminal activities of Edwards’ father. “Let’s talk about all the victims that he left behind that are surviving of the trauma and the turmoil that he put these people’s lives through,” Covington added.

Despite the loss, Covington was already looking ahead, calling out Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson for his next fight. He criticized Thompson for comments made in the media and expressed a desire to settle their differences in the Octagon.

Reflecting on his performance, Covington rated it a “five out of 10” and acknowledged that he could have executed his game plan better. He also mentioned his admiration for former President Donald Trump, who was in attendance, and his plans to support Trump’s future endeavors.

As for his character, Covington was clear: “There is no character. I’m a guy that just turns it up to 11. I don’t care what people think of me.” This statement encapsulates Covington’s approach to his public persona – unfiltered and unapologetic, regardless of the controversy it stirs.
