The two martial artists showed lots of respect for each other in the early stages of the contest. Moraes took control of the center of the cage after showing a wide stance and backing Kingad toward the cage.
Moraes dropped the challenger with some strikes but Kingad remained completely composed. Kingad attempted an upkick, which allowed Moraes to swiftly pass the legs of his opponent and end up in side control.
Moraes worked to gained stability in this position. Kingad expressed his urgency to get back to the feet as soon as possible. He attempted to frame and create separation between him and the champion, but it was to no effect.

This was always going to be a dangerous move against the champion and Moraes quickly moved around to the side of Kingad before digging hooks and taking the back. From here, it was only a matter of time and Moraes eventually submitted the challenger with a rear-naked choke.
