Retired boxing champion Terence Crawford has revealed the one fight he wants to see before anything else. When asked on social media which bout he most wants to watch, Crawford answered simply: “Shakur vs Tank.”
The matchup between Shakur Stevenson and Gervonta “Tank” Davis has topped boxing fans’ wish lists for years. Both fighters are considered among the best pound-for-pound boxers in the sport today.
Crawford retired in December 2025 after a legendary career that included victories over Canelo Alvarez and Errol Spence. Many observers believe his protégé Stevenson is positioned to dominate boxing for years to come.
Stevenson’s Rise to Four-Weight Champion
Stevenson’s most recent victory came in January 2026 when he defeated Teofimo Lopez in one-sided fashion. The win earned him the WBO super-lightweight championship and made him a four-weight world champion.

Before that, in February 2025, Stevenson defended his WBC lightweight title against Josh Padley in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Padley had replaced Floyd Schofield on just four days’ notice after Schofield fell ill.
Stevenson stopped Padley in nine rounds with a devastating body attack. The challenger was working as an electrician on a construction site earlier that week before getting the call to fight.
After beating Padley, Stevenson made his intentions clear. “Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis. I think that’s the biggest fight in boxing,” he said following the victory.
Stevenson jumped to third in Ring Magazine’s pound-for-pound rankings after his win over Lopez. Only Naoya Inoue and Oleksandr Usyk ranked higher.
Davis’s Recent Activity Raises Questions
While Stevenson has stayed active and dominant, Davis’s recent career has been less clear. Tank fought to a controversial majority decision draw against Lamont Roach in March 2025.
The WBA subsequently stripped Davis of his lightweight title. He hasn’t fought since the Roach draw over a year ago.
Recent reports indicate Davis is in advanced talks for a return bout against Isaac Cruz, whom he previously faced. If that fight happens and Davis wins, the Stevenson matchup would remain one of boxing’s biggest possible fights.
Hall of Fame boxer Mike Tyson also weighed in on the potential matchup while attending the Mike Tyson Invitational amateur tournament in Las Vegas. “If Shakur handles this guy like he did Lopez, I’m with him,” Tyson told Fight Hub TV.
Tyson praised Stevenson’s technical skills but warned that beating him requires constant pressure. “You’ve got to be on him constantly. Once you start looking at him and doing this, you’re dead. He’s going to pick you apart,” Tyson explained.
When asked about Davis, Tyson was complimentary. “He’s a great fighter, especially when he is serious about it,” Tyson said, though he questioned whether Davis maintains the same focus he once had.
Despite the widespread interest in making the fight happen, Stevenson gave a pessimistic update on the show 7PM in Brooklyn with Carmelo Anthony. “I would love [to fight Davis], but at the end of the day, once again, if somebody says they’re never going to fight me, f— you. I don’t need you, bro,” Stevenson said.
Stevenson’s next opponent remains unknown. Crawford’s public endorsement of the Davis fight adds pressure on promoters to make the matchup happen.
