Renato Moicano returned to the win column Saturday night at UFC Vegas 115, submitting his own teammate Chris Duncan with a second-round rear-naked choke. The finish came at 3:14 of the second round in the main event at Meta APEX in Las Vegas.
Moicano dominated the fight from the opening bell, using his striking to set up his grappling attack. The Brazilian veteran landed clean punches throughout the first round before taking control in the second.
Early in round two, Moicano dropped Duncan with strikes before dragging the fight to the ground. Once there, Moicano took Duncan’s back and locked in the rear-naked choke, forcing the tap from his American Top Team training partner.
The win snapped a two-fight losing streak for Moicano, who had previously lost to former lightweight champion Islam Makhachev and Beneil Dariush. Duncan saw his four-fight winning streak come to an end.

Expletive-Filled Post-Fight Interview
Moicano’s post-fight interview inside the Octagon featured an expletive-filled sermon themed around Easter. The 35-year-old fighter expressed frustration about being used as a gatekeeper in the lightweight division.
When speaking to reporters backstage, Moicano immediately called out Brian Ortega for a rematch. “There is one motherf*cker I have bad blood with,” Moicano said on the Paramount+ post-fight show. “His name is Ortega.”
Moicano lost to Ortega by third-round submission back in 2017 in his first UFC defeat. The two were scheduled to rematch in March, but Ortega withdrew from the fight.
“I was supposed to fight him last month and then he pulled out,” Moicano said. “I think it’s fair to say we need to settle this thing.”
Moicano specifically requested the rematch take place in Brazil, noting that the UFC is planning to return there. “Let’s do Ortega vs. Moicano,” he said.
Frustrated With Low-Profile Matchups
The Brazilian fighter expressed frustration with being offered fights against lesser-known opponents. Moicano said he took the Duncan fight because of his two-fight losing streak but wants bigger names going forward.
“Chris Duncan, I took that fight because I am on a two-fight skid,” Moicano said. “He’s not famous. Nobody knows him.”
Moicano runs a YouTube channel and said he needs opponents he can promote effectively. He mentioned several other potential opponents including Paddy Pimblett, Dan Hooker, and Benoit Saint Denis.
“It should be a fight I can promote, like Ortega, like Paddy Pimblett, like Dan Hooker, maybe Benoit Saint Denis, maybe somebody the fans know,” Moicano explained. “There are a lot of guys who are very good, but nobody knows them.”
In the co-main event, Virna Jandiroba defeated Tabatha Ricci by unanimous decision. Jandiroba used her grappling skills to control Ricci for the first two rounds, earning scores of 30-27, 29-28, and 29-28 from the judges.
The win marked Jandiroba’s return to form after losing a vacant strawweight title fight in October. She has now won six of her last seven fights inside the Octagon.
Moicano’s record now stands at 21-7-1 overall and 13-7 in the UFC, while Duncan drops to 15-3 overall and 6-2 in the promotion.
