A war of words has erupted between Mike Perry and Eddie Alvarez following a violent brawl at BKFC KnuckleMania 6 in Philadelphia this past weekend. The two fighters are giving completely different accounts of what started the fight.
Video footage from the event shows Perry engaged in a heated exchange with people seated behind him before being shoved to the ground. Multiple people then swarmed Perry, with the BKFC star appearing to be punched and kicked while on the floor until security intervened.
Perry initially laughed off the incident on social media, saying he was drunk and the floor was slippery. He claimed on his podcast that he got bumped from behind and turned to say “excuse me” before things escalated.
“I’m looking at Eddie with a side eye, like, are you going to get either one of them before I start cussing at them and stuff? I’m getting mad,” Perry said. “I’m lit. I was lit when I got there.”
Perry said he got into an argument with Alvarez’s son before Alvarez himself stood up and pushed him hard, starting the brawl.
Alvarez Fires Back With His Version
Alvarez told a very different story in an interview with MMA Fighting. He said Perry made inappropriate comments to his son’s teenage girlfriend, who was attending her first fight.
“He turned around and said something pretty nasty to my son’s girlfriend,” Alvarez said. “My son turns to her and said ‘what did he say?’ Then he said it again.”
Alvarez said his son, who weighs 130 pounds, asked Perry what he said to make the girlfriend uncomfortable. According to Alvarez, Perry then told the young man “I wasn’t talking to you, I was talking to her.”
“You’re bullying a kid,” Alvarez said. He explained that he was sitting six seats away with his wife when his son told him Perry was trying to hit on his girlfriend.
Alvarez said he switched seats to sit behind Perry, hoping to calm things down. His wife then politely told Perry that was their son and his girlfriend.
According to Alvarez, Perry turned to his son and said “that’s going to happen” when you have a girlfriend and guys will try to talk to them. Perry then allegedly told Alvarez’s son he should do something about it if he didn’t like it.
“He turns to me and says to me ‘I’m sorry, I know I’m wrong but I think you should do something about it,'” Alvarez said. “What the f*ck am I supposed to do? You’re a drunk mess, trying to bitch up my son, trying to talk to a teenage girl, my whole family is there.”
Perry Threatens Legal Action
After hearing Alvarez’s account, Perry changed his tune on social media. He called Alvarez a liar and threatened to take legal action.
“He’s a liar, f*ck you Eddie,” Perry tweeted. “What I said was true because I was having a good time being nice to everyone who I crossed paths with.”
Perry said his manager Abraham Kawa saw his hat land in his lap and he turned around because the hat fell. He claimed he saw a girl and Alvarez’s son slid in after he said excuse me.
“This is not a business transaction, you’re an idiot for saying this for drama because now legal action will have to be taken and others will need to be interviewed,” Perry wrote. “What was in that girls cup? You say I said inappropriate things? What did I say? Forget you.”
Alvarez defended his family’s actions during the brawl. He said his son’s girlfriend was “scared to death” by the whole incident.
“I’m not sorry that my kids f*cked him up,” Alvarez said. “I have an 18-year-old kid and a 20-year-old kid, I’m not sorry that they f*cking dumped on him.”
Alvarez said his jiu-jitsu coach and his son’s friend also jumped into the fight. He acknowledged they probably shouldn’t have gotten involved but said he wasn’t in control of the situation.
The former UFC lightweight champion called Perry a “f*cking scumbag” and said he used to think Perry’s wild behavior was just an act. Perry defeated Alvarez by corner stoppage when they fought in BKFC in 2023.
