    TLDR

    • Brendan Schaub called the UFC 332 main event between Natalia Silva and Wang Cong the worst main event in MMA history
    • Silva and Wang will fight for the vacant flyweight title after Valentina Shevchenko vacated due to a one-year injury
    • Schaub argued the fight should be a co-main event rather than a main event on a numbered card
    • Current betting odds have Silva as a -210 favorite over Wang at +180
    • The winner could face either returning champion Shevchenko or the winner of Fiorot vs. Grasso for the next title defense

Former UFC heavyweight fighter Brendan Schaub has publicly criticized the upcoming UFC 332 main event, calling it the worst main event in mixed martial arts history. The card will feature Natalia Silva versus Wang Cong for the vacant women’s flyweight championship.

The title fight became necessary after current champion Valentina Shevchenko suffered an injury that will keep her out for one year. She was forced to vacate the UFC women’s flyweight title, opening the door for Silva and Wang to compete for the undisputed championship.

While the matchup features two fighters who prefer to stand and trade strikes, Schaub argued that this type of fight typically serves as a co-main event on numbered cards rather than the main attraction. He shared his thoughts during an episode of his podcast “The Big Brown Beatdown.”

    Schaub’s Comments on the Fight

“It’s like UFC got the ball to the one-yard line and then said, ‘(expletive) it,’ and gave up,” Schaub said according to MMA Mania. He praised the undercard as fantastic but expressed disappointment with the main event selection.

Schaub questioned the decision-making process behind booking this fight as the headliner. “I just want to know who was like, ‘I’ve got it! Natalia Silva vs. Wang Cong!’ Did everyone in that room say, ‘That’s sick!’?” he asked.

He went further in his criticism of Wang Cong specifically. “Wang Cong should never be headlining a card and shouldn’t be fighting for a title,” Schaub stated.

Schaub connected his criticism to the UFC’s recent shift away from the pay-per-view model in America. He suggested that because the promotion already has subscriber money locked in, they may feel less pressure to create compelling main events.

Betting Lines and Future Title Picture

The current UFC 332 betting odds list Silva as a -210 favorite over Wang, who sits at +180 as the underdog. Silva initially opened at -250, meaning early betting action has favored Wang and moved the line in her direction.

Both fighters are primarily strikers, which gives either woman a chance to land a knockout blow. However, both Silva and Wang typically go the distance in their fights, making a full five-round decision the more likely outcome.

When Shevchenko returns from injury, she could potentially receive an immediate title shot to reclaim her championship. However, the UFC may instead give the next title opportunity to the winner of an upcoming Noche UFC fight between Manon Fiorot and former champion Alexa Grasso.

Schaub’s opinion appears to be shared by a number of fans who have expressed similar concerns about the UFC 332 main event on social media. The card will still feature what Schaub described as a strong undercard of fights.

UFC 332 is scheduled to take place with Silva and Wang competing for the vacant 125-pound championship in the main event.
