Jake Matthews secured a second-round TKO victory over Carlston Harris at UFC Macau on Saturday, extending his winning streak in the welterweight division. The Australian veteran stopped Harris at 4:12 of the second round with a flurry of strikes.

Matthews controlled much of the opening round with his striking and grappling. He used his experience to neutralize Harris’s athleticism and kept the fight at his preferred pace.

Matthews Takes Control in Round Two

The second round saw Matthews increase his offensive output. He began landing heavy punches that visibly hurt Harris and forced him into defensive mode.

Matthews pressed forward with combinations that backed Harris against the cage. The referee stepped in to stop the contest after Harris could no longer defend himself effectively.

The victory marks Matthews’s second consecutive win in the UFC. The 30-year-old Australian fighter has now been competing in the promotion for over a decade.

Matthews made his UFC debut in 2014 and has faced numerous top welterweights throughout his career. This win improves his overall UFC record and keeps him relevant in the competitive 170-pound division.

    Harris Struggles Continue

For Carlston Harris, the loss represents another setback in his UFC journey. The defeat is his second straight inside the octagon after previously showing promise as a prospect.

Harris entered the bout looking to bounce back from his previous loss. However, he struggled to find his rhythm against the more experienced Matthews.

The 30-year-old fighter from Guyana could not implement his game plan effectively. Matthews’s pressure and striking accuracy proved too much for Harris to handle over the course of the fight.

Harris will need to regroup and make adjustments moving forward. His athleticism and physical tools remain present, but execution against UFC-level competition has been challenging.

The bout took place on the preliminary card of UFC Macau. The event was held at the Galaxy Arena in Macau, China.

UFC Macau featured a flyweight main event between Petr Yan and Deiveson Figueiredo. The card showcased both local and international fighters competing in front of an Asian audience.

Matthews’s performance demonstrated his technical skills and finishing ability. He showed improved striking defense while maintaining offensive pressure throughout the fight.

The Australian fighter called out potential opponents in his post-fight interview. He expressed interest in facing ranked welterweights to continue climbing the division ladder.

Matthews has compiled a lengthy UFC resume with wins over several fighters. His longevity in the promotion speaks to his durability and consistent preparation.

Harris must now evaluate his approach after consecutive losses. The welterweight division offers limited margin for error, and another loss could jeopardize his roster spot.

The stoppage victory gives Matthews momentum heading into 2025. He will likely receive another assignment in the first half of next year as he pursues bigger fights in the welterweight division.
