PHILADELPHIA – Mackenzie Dern successfully defended her UFC strawweight championship for the first time Saturday night, defeating Gillian Robertson by unanimous decision at UFC 330. The judges scored the bout 49-46, 49-46, and 48-47 in favor of the champion.
The co-main event at Xfinity Mobile Arena featured two of the division’s top grapplers in a matchup that went the full five rounds. Dern improved her record to 16-5 overall and 7-5 in the UFC with the victory.
Dern controlled most of the action from the opening round, using her superior boxing to land strikes before taking the fight to the ground. She nearly finished Robertson with a rear-naked choke in the final minute of the first round, but the horn sounded before Robertson was forced to tap.
Dominant Grappling Display
The second round saw Dern return to her submission game, taking Robertson down and hunting for finishes. The champion spent most of the round in dominant positions while Robertson worked defensively to survive.
Round three followed a similar pattern, with Dern dictating where the fight took place. Robertson struggled to escape whether pinned against the fence or on the canvas, taking extended periods to create any separation.

Dern dragged Robertson to the mat again in the fourth round and quickly took her back. She maintained control for approximately three minutes before Robertson managed a reversal with 90 seconds remaining.
Even from her back, Dern threatened with an armbar and then a knee bar attempt. Robertson could not capitalize on the position change before the round ended.
Late Rally Not Enough
Robertson found her best success in the fifth and final round, scoring an early takedown on the champion. She remained on top for the entire round but was unable to generate meaningful offense.
Both fighters were met with boos from the Philadelphia crowd when the final horn sounded. The low-action affair did not meet fan expectations despite the high-level grappling on display.
Dern won the strawweight title in October 2025 by defeating Virna Jandiroba by unanimous decision. That fight was for the vacant championship after longtime titleholder Zhang Weili moved up to flyweight.
Zhang has not returned to the strawweight division since losing her flyweight title challenge against Valentina Shevchenko in November 2025. Dern has publicly expressed interest in facing Zhang to settle questions about who is the division’s true champion.
The 33-year-old Dern has now won five consecutive fights. Her recent victories include wins over Robertson, Jandiroba, and Amanda Ribas.
Robertson saw her own five-fight winning streak snapped with the loss. She drops to 17-8 overall and 14-6 inside the UFC.
Robertson’s previous wins before facing Dern came against Marina Rodriguez and Amanda Lemos. The defeat represents her first loss since 2023.
