Kelvin Gastelum vs. Ian Heinisch play-by-play
Kelvin Gastelum vs. Ian Heinisch is expected to start around 11:30 pm (ET). In the meantime, join our live fight companion.
Round one
Inside leg kick for Heinisch to start. Double-leg from Heinisch and making Gastelum work. Gastelum rolls out and returns to his feet. He’s pressing Heinisch to the cage now. Heinisch has a kimura locked in from bottom half guard. Gastelum escapes and gets to the back of Heinisch. Heinisch pressed against the cage now. Gastelum attempts a slam but Heinisch stays upright. Takedown attempt from Heinisch but Gastelum lands in another kimura attempt from top position. Gastelum powers through to full mount. Gastelum settles into mount. Attempts to posture up but Heinisch defends that. Heinisch uses the cage to escape. An inside leg kick from Gastelum now as they’re standing again. Gastelum now working behind his jab. Gastelum presses Heinisch to the cage and we’re clinching again. Gastelum picks up and slams Heinisch to the mat but it’s an instant return to standing position from there. Gastelum body kick. Both fighters miss kicks to end the round.
Close round. But Gastelum edges this one.

Round two
Gastelum opens with two kicks. Heinisch shoots but Gastelum stuffs the double-leg attempt easily. Gastelum now walking Heinisch down. Heinisch flying knee hits Gastelum on the chin but Gastelum just comes forward through it to land a takedown and end up on top in half guard. Punches from the top now. Moves to clinch and then breaks. Heinisch trying to step up here. Body kicks and a 1-2. Gastelum comes forward again though and presses Heinisch back. Smothering him in the clinch now. They’re trading at boxing range now but that’s a dangerous game for Heinisch. Gastelum looks in control of the fight now. Big body kick lands for Heinisch but it’s too little too late to win this round.

Round three
Gastelum shoots a single but can’t secure it. Heinisch elbow. Heinisch now shoots for a takedown but Gastelum scrambles and they end up with Gastelum controlling the clinch again. That’s the story of this fight so far. Gastelum is controlling the fight wherever it takes place. Strong Gastelum left hand comes through. Gastelum combo ends with a left high kick that is partially blocked. Heinisch circling around the outside of the cage. Another flying knee but Gastelum again just drives forward and uses it to secure a takedown. Gastelum floats and ends up taking the back of Gastelum. Amazing transition. Punches from Heinisch but Gastelum escapes the position and ends up in control of the position again. Heinisch standing now. He’s desperate to change the course of this fight but Gastelum isn’t giving up anything. Heinisch takedown to end the round. Double-leg and gets on top. Gastelum stands and then shoots for his own takedown to finish the fight.
