Flyweight strikers Lone’er Kavanagh and Brandon Royval will meet Saturday night at UFC 329 inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The bout represents a critical moment for both fighters seeking a path to championship contention.

Kavanagh enters the contest as the betting underdog at +172 odds, while Royval is favored at -225 according to FanDuel Sportsbook. The 27-year-old English fighter is riding momentum from his February upset victory over former champion Brandon Moreno in Mexico City.

    Kavanagh’s Rise to Contention

That win over Moreno marked Kavanagh’s second appearance of 2026 and immediately erased memories of his shocking defeat to Charles Johnson. The victory propelled him into title contention and showcased his kickboxing background.

Kavanagh brings speed and power advantages to the matchup, along with strong takedown defense. His explosive movements and dangerous counter-striking make him a threat at distance, though questions remain about his conditioning in longer fights.

The English fighter slowed down in his only career loss to Johnson, and his output has typically decreased over the course of difficult bouts. He managed his energy well against Moreno, but that fight saw the former champion’s legs compromised early, limiting his offensive capabilities.

    Royval Seeks Rebound After Losses

Royval knows the flyweight elite well after debuting in 2020 with a win over former title challenger Tim Elliott. The 33-year-old has remained in championship waters since, though his recent form raises concerns.

“Raw Dog” has dropped two consecutive fights to champion Joshua Van and top-ranked contender Manel Kape. Those defeats came against the division’s hottest fighters, but they represent his first losing streak in the UFC.

Royval holds records for striking volume and brings exceptional durability to his fights. His early UFC career featured chaotic scrambles and submission attempts, though recent years saw him adopt a more measured approach as a southpaw striker.

The veteran hasn’t recorded a finish in several years, which could prove crucial against an opponent with conditioning questions. Royval’s ability to maintain pace and throw high volumes of punches may be his best path to victory.

Analysts suggest Royval needs to return to his aggressive roots, pressuring Kavanagh despite the risk of eating counters. Body shots and sustained combinations could drain the younger fighter’s gas tank in later rounds.

Kavanagh will look to establish his kicking game early, using front kicks and low kicks to keep Royval at distance. If he can force Royval to walk into his counters, the speed difference should favor the underdog.

The bout takes place eight months after Royval’s knockout loss to Kape, giving him time to recover from that violent defeat. Both fighters view this matchup as essential to their championship aspirations in the 125-pound division.

Betting markets favor a Royval decision victory at +400 odds, while a Kavanagh decision sits at +150. The fight is scheduled for Saturday, July 11, 2026, as part of the UFC 329 card headlined by Conor McGregor versus Max Holloway.
