Former two-division Bellator champion Patricio Pitbull has revealed he suffered a fractured orbital bone during his UFC 327 loss to Aaron Pico on Saturday, April 11, 2026. The injury occurred early in the fight and severely compromised his ability to compete.
Pitbull posted a video on Instagram three days after the unanimous decision defeat at the Kaseya Center in Miami, Florida. He explained what happened during the bout and why his performance changed dramatically after the first round.
“I took a clean shot to the eye with my eye wide open — a jab and a straight right — and it fractured my orbital bone,” Pitbull wrote on social media. “That compromised my vision at the start of the second round.”
The Brazilian fighter said many analysts noticed he started strong in the opening round but experienced a sharp decline afterward. The injury explains the sudden shift in his performance.

Fighting Through the Pain
“All I could do was try to protect myself from the blows that were coming,” Pitbull said in his video message. “Of course, I tried to attack, too, but with very little success.”
Pitbull absorbed heavy punishment throughout the second round after his vision was compromised. He credited his durability for making it to the final bell.
“Anyone who saw could tell this old man still has a bit of chin here, that I can take a few hits,” Pitbull added. “Unfortunately, that was all I could manage given the condition I was in.”
The loss dropped Pitbull two spots in the UFC featherweight rankings. He now sits outside the Top 15, while Pico moved up to the No. 13 position.
Title Dreams on Hold
Since joining the UFC, Pitbull has been vocal about pursuing a championship run in the Octagon. Those ambitions are now on pause as he faces a longer road back to title contention.
“Even though my heart is broken, I’m fine,” Pitbull stated. “I’m aware of what I can still do in this weight class, but I’m also aware that, after taking a few steps back, I need to take a longer path.”
The 37-year-old fighter made it clear he will not discuss title opportunities for now. He understands he needs multiple wins to work his way back into championship discussions.
“I won’t talk about the title for now,” Pitbull said. “I need to fight a few more times and get myself back in that position. I’m ready.”
Pitbull expressed deep disappointment with the outcome, especially given his confidence heading into the fight. “It was a fight I felt very confident about — I was sure I was going to win,” he explained.
Despite the setback, Pitbull congratulated his opponent and acknowledged Pico’s performance. “Congrats to my opponent — he was well-trained and really fast,” he said.
Pitbull thanked fans for their support and concern following the fight. He emphasized that while he is heartbroken by the loss, he remains committed to his UFC career.
The former Bellator champion now holds a 1-2 record inside the Octagon. His only UFC victory came against Dan Ige, while he has suffered losses to Yair Rodriguez and now Aaron Pico.
Pitbull must first recover from the orbital fracture before planning his next move. His comeback will have to wait until the injury heals completely.
