UFC lightweight veteran Beneil Dariush has announced he will take time off from competition after suffering a first-round TKO loss to Quillan Salkilld at UFC Fight Night 275 in Perth, Australia on Saturday.
Dariush posted a message on Instagram reassuring fans about his condition following the defeat. “I’m good friends. I have no injuries and I appreciate everyone checking on me,” he wrote.
Fourth First-Round Stoppage Loss
The loss extends a difficult stretch for the 37-year-old fighter. Dariush has now suffered four knockout or TKO losses in the first round over his past five fights.
The fight against Salkilld started promisingly for Dariush, who dropped his opponent early in the bout. However, Salkilld recovered and ultimately finished Dariush in the opening frame.
Dariush’s only victory in his last five outings came against Renato Moicano at UFC 317 in June 2025. He won that fight by unanimous decision.

His current losing streak began with a first-round TKO loss to Charles Oliveira. Most recently, Dariush suffered a 16-second knockout loss to Benoit Saint Denis at the end of 2025.
With the latest defeat, Dariush’s professional record drops to 23-8-1 in MMA overall. His UFC record now stands at 17-8-1.
For Salkilld, the victory improves his record to 21-1 in MMA and a perfect 5-0 inside the UFC octagon. The win came in front of a enthusiastic Australian crowd at RAC Arena.
From Title Contender to Career Crossroads
Dariush was once considered one of the top contenders in the UFC’s lightweight division. He put together an impressive eight-fight winning streak that included victories over Mateusz Gamrot and Tony Ferguson.
That winning streak positioned him as a potential challenger for the UFC lightweight championship. However, reigning UFC Featherweight Champion Alexander Volkanovski recently commented that Dariush may have missed his title shot opportunity.
Volkanovski suggested that his own two attempts to challenge Islam Makhachev for the lightweight title prevented Dariush from getting his chance. If Volkanovski had not moved up in weight class, Dariush might have received a title fight during his winning streak.
The recent string of losses has raised questions about the veteran fighter’s future in the sport. Dariush will turn 37 years old on Wednesday.
In his Instagram post, Dariush said he plans to head to Sydney for the week before determining his next steps. “I’ll be taking some time off and heading over to Sydney tomorrow for the week. God bless,” he wrote.
