The UFC 279 fight card has undergone some huge changes just one night before the fights begin in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Khamzat Chimaev, who was supposed to face Nate Diaz in a welterweight main event fight, ended up missing weight by almost eight pounds, leading to a dramatic shift in plans. Because Diaz hit the 171-pound weight limit for the main event, there was no way he should accept a fight with Chimaev, who came in much heavier. The UFC needed to make some rapid adjustments to save the event and keep Nate Diaz on the fight card.

Now, the UFC 279 main event is arguably better as Diaz is set to fight Tony Ferguson in a five-round welterweight fight. Ferguson had weighed in at welterweight for his fight with Li Jingliang in the co-main event, so it only made sense to slide him up into the main event slot for UFC 279.

Chimaev drops down to the co-main event and will now fight Kevin Holland, who had weighed in at 180 pounds for a catchweight bout with Daniel Rodriguez. Rodriguez and Jingliang are the remaining fighters and will also end up fighting on the main card, despite Rodriguez weighing almost nine pounds more than Jingliang.

Somehow, despite the panic and last-minute adjustments, UFC 279 looks better than it did yesterday. Here’s how to order and watch the UFC 279 PPV and see Nate Diaz fight Tony Ferguson on Saturday night.
