Yesterday morning, Shooto returned to the famous Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan, and with them, they brought a loaded Shooto 30th Anniversary Tour 7th Round fight card.
For those who may not follow Shooto, often, to simplify their event names, they shorten them based on the month/day the show took place on. So this show could also be referred to as Shooto 0922.
The event, though not exactly loaded with fights, featured plenty of talent. In the main event, Shooto Pacific Rim bantamweight champion Ryo Okada (15-4-2) attempted to make the first defense of his title since winning it back in January with a scintillating first-round knockout. He faced high-level finisher Tatsuya Ando (10-2) from TRIBE TOKYO MMA.
In the co-main event, it was non-title action.
Shooto featherweight champion Yutaka Saito (16-4-2) took on the legendary former DREAM champ “Streetfight Bancho” Hiroyuki Takaya (23-14-2). The 42-year-old legend is riding a two-fight win streak but had not fought in two years. The Shooto Infinity League -50kg Tournament semi-final round also took place on this event.
