The exhibition fight between boxer Gervonta “Tank” Davis and Jake Paul was canceled on November 3, following allegations of assault at a Miami-area strip club. The scheduled November 14 bout was called off four days after Davis’ former girlfriend filed a civil lawsuit against him.
Surveillance video and an incident report from Tootsie’s Cabaret detail allegations that Davis assaulted his ex-girlfriend on October 27. The woman filed her lawsuit with the 11th Judicial Circuit Court in Miami-Dade County on October 30.
Strip Club Incident Details
Artagus Lane, a manager at Tootsie’s Cabaret, documented the incident in a report filed with the club. The report states that Davis grabbed the woman by the neck and hair while she was working her shift as a VIP waitress.
According to Lane’s report, video footage shows Davis forcing the woman to walk toward the kitchen stairway. The woman could be seen begging Davis to stop as he pushed her by the head down the stairs.
The incident continued through the kitchen area of the club. Davis remained physical with the woman as she tried to get away from him, according to the report.
The woman eventually escaped when Davis walked ahead to get his vehicle keys from the valet. She ran back into the club at that point.
Lane interviewed the woman in his office after the incident. She was shaking and crying while explaining what happened, according to the report.
The woman told Lane she and Davis had been acquaintances who experienced similar issues at another club recently. She also stated that Davis had choked her at a nightclub before she started working at Tootsie’s Cabaret.
Legal Proceedings Delayed
The woman filed a civil lawsuit claiming battery, aggravated battery, false imprisonment, kidnapping and intentional infliction of emotional distress. She also filed for a restraining order against Davis.
A judge granted a temporary injunction against Davis. However, the hearing for a permanent injunction was rescheduled from November 12 to December 9 because Davis was not served a summons.
Eugenio Carral, director of the Family Courts Department in Miami-Dade County, confirmed that Davis must be served before a judge can rule on the petition. Law enforcement in Broward County, Florida, and Clark County, Nevada, have received copies to attempt service again.
The woman’s attorney Richard Wolfe said process servers have tried unsuccessfully three times to serve Davis. The call box at Davis’ Southwest Ranches, Florida home does not list his name, according to emails from the process server.
Davis is currently on probation from a 2023 hit-and-run case in Baltimore. He pleaded guilty to multiple traffic offenses and had his probation extended by 18 months in March after admitting he left the state without permission.
The Miami Gardens Police Department has confirmed the matter is an active case. No criminal charges had been filed against Davis as of November 24.
Davis’ representative Ravone Littlejohn declined to comment on the allegations. A spokesperson for Davis said the boxer will address the matter in a documentary to be released after Thanksgiving.
