UFC featherweight star Max Holloway has confirmed he is training for a potential rematch with former opponent Conor McGregor. The Hawaiian fighter has opened up about his interest in facing the Irish superstar again after their first meeting years ago.

Holloway recently spoke about the possibility of fighting McGregor for a second time. The bout could take place at UFC 329, though no official announcement has been made by the promotion.

The two fighters first met in 2013 when both were rising prospects in the featherweight division. McGregor won that fight by unanimous decision at UFC Fight Night 26 in Boston.

Since their first encounter, both fighters have taken very different paths in their careers. Holloway went on to become the UFC featherweight champion and defended the title multiple times.

Holloway’s Career Since First McGregor Fight

Holloway has established himself as one of the best featherweights in UFC history. He captured the interim featherweight title in 2017 and later won the undisputed championship.

The Hawaiian fighter holds the record for most significant strikes landed in UFC history. His striking volume and cardio have made him one of the most dangerous fighters in the division.

McGregor, meanwhile, became a two-division champion and the biggest pay-per-view draw in UFC history. He won both the featherweight and lightweight titles before focusing on boxing and other ventures.

The Irish fighter has been less active in recent years due to injuries and other commitments. His last fight ended in a leg injury that required extensive recovery time.

    Training Already Underway

Holloway has reportedly started training specifically for a potential McGregor matchup. The fighter appears focused on getting revenge for his 2013 loss.

A rematch between the two would be one of the biggest fights the UFC could make. Both fighters have massive fan bases and the fight would likely generate huge pay-per-view numbers.

The landscape has changed drastically since their first meeting over a decade ago. Both fighters are now established veterans with championship credentials.

Holloway believes he has improved enough to change the result from their first fight. The featherweight contender has won against many top-ranked opponents since losing to McGregor.

McGregor has not publicly responded to Holloway’s comments about a rematch. The Irish fighter’s next opponent and return date remain unclear.

The UFC has not confirmed whether Holloway versus McGregor will happen at UFC 329 or any other event. Contract negotiations and both fighters’ availability would need to align for the bout to take place.

Holloway’s recent form shows he remains one of the elite fighters in the featherweight division. His experience and skill level have grown substantially since 2013.

The potential rematch represents a chance for Holloway to settle unfinished business from early in his career. Training has begun as the fighter prepares for what could be one of the biggest fights of his life.
