Former two-division UFC champion Conor McGregor has confirmed his return to the octagon on July 11, 2026, during International Fight Week. The announcement ends years of speculation about when the Irish fighter would compete again.

McGregor took to Instagram to address fans directly with his characteristic bravado. “The rumors are true! Mr. Confidence returns to save fighting again!” he wrote in a lengthy post that has since generated massive attention across social media.

The 22-6 fighter has been out of action since July 2021 when he suffered a broken leg in a TKO loss to Dustin Poirier at UFC 264. That injury marked his second consecutive loss to Poirier and sidelined him for an extended recovery period.

    A Rocky Road to Comeback

McGregor’s return path has been filled with setbacks and false starts. He was scheduled to fight Michael Chandler in 2025 but withdrew due to a toe injury before the bout could take place.

The fighter also faced a suspension for failing to report his whereabouts for mandatory drug testing. That suspension was lifted earlier this month, clearing the way for his return to competition.

🚨 Conor McGregor will fight on July 11 unless “something disastrous” happens, per Ariel Helwani

McGregor was considered for a fight at the White House card in June, but that event was announced without his name on the card. Now the focus has shifted to the summer International Fight Week event.

Max Holloway Emerges as Potential Opponent

MMA journalist Ariel Helwani reports that Max Holloway is being considered as McGregor’s opponent for the July comeback fight. Helwani stated earlier this week that it would take “something disastrous” for McGregor not to appear at the July 11 event.

McGregor has been active on social media discussing his return plans in recent weeks. He posted and then deleted a message saying he had been offered both an opponent and a date, which he accepted.

In more recent posts, McGregor indicated he would be willing to face a “no name” opponent and called on the UFC to send him a contract. His Instagram announcement included references to Paramount+, suggesting broadcast details may already be in discussion.

The fighter’s colorful Instagram post included his typical trash talk and confidence. “I DO THIS FIGHT GAME EASY PEEZY. THE SOUND OF MY SHOTS OFF THE HEAD GO ‘BING’ in green dot laser form,” McGregor wrote.

McGregor closed his announcement by expressing excitement about the return. “Hey Paramount+ see you guys soon I’m so excited! And born ready. The Notorious. Conor McGregor,” he wrote.

The July 11 date places McGregor’s return during one of the UFC’s premier annual events. International Fight Week typically draws large crowds to Las Vegas and features multiple fights across several days.

McGregor’s last victory came in January 2020 when he defeated Donald Cerrone via first-round TKO at UFC 246. His return after nearly five years away from competition will test whether he can recapture his previous form.
