Jack Della Maddalena will face Carlos Prates in the main event of UFC Fight Night on Saturday at RAC Arena in Perth, Australia. The welterweight bout features two of the division’s most dangerous strikers with near even betting odds.
Della Maddalena is listed between -102 and +105 across various sportsbooks, while Prates ranges from -115 to -125 as a slight favorite. The fight represents a crucial bounce-back opportunity for the Australian who lost his welterweight title six months ago.
Della Maddalena (18-3) captured the UFC welterweight championship with a unanimous decision victory over Belal Muhammad at UFC 315 in May 2025. He then lost the belt to Islam Makhachev via unanimous decision at UFC 322 in November 2025 at Madison Square Garden.
The 29-year-old Australian admitted he made tactical errors in the title loss. “I think getting stuck and not having the footwork,” Della Maddalena said. “There were opportunities on the back where I was thinking too defensively, trying not to get subbed. I should have been attacking and trying to create opportunities to scramble.”
Prates Brings Six-Fight Knockout Streak
Prates (23-7) enters the bout with impressive momentum, having won six of his seven UFC fights by knockout or TKO. The Brazilian most recently stopped Leon Edwards in Round 2 at UFC 322 and Geoff Neal in Round 1 at UFC 319 in August 2025.
The 32-year-old southpaw has scored 12 knockout victories across all competitions since December 2021. His only UFC loss came via unanimous decision to Ian Garry in a Fight Night main event on April 26, 2025.
“I think [Della Maddalena] did maybe a wrong strategy, but it is what it is,” Prates said. “Makhachev is good. That’s why I’m expecting the best version of JDM right now. Probably, he’s going to come angry and hungry.”
Prates currently ranks tied for No. 7 all-time in UFC welterweight knockouts despite competing in the division for less than two years. A victory over Della Maddalena would move him closer to title contention.
Physical Advantages and Fighting Styles
Prates holds a five-inch reach advantage at 78 inches compared to Della Maddalena’s 73 inches. He also stands two inches taller at 6-foot-1.
Della Maddalena lands 5.57 significant strikes per minute with 55.77% accuracy. Prates averages 3.77 significant strikes per minute at 55.42% accuracy. Both fighters rarely attempt takedowns, with Prates at 0.21 per fight and Della Maddalena at 0.13.
Multiple analysts predict Della Maddalena’s superior boxing and close-range skills could neutralize Prates’ Muay Thai-based attack. CBS Sports projects the Australian will win by unanimous decision, citing his technical advantages in the pocket.
Other experts favor Prates’ knockout power and ability to control distance with his reach. Yahoo Sports predicts Prates will win by knockout, noting Della Maddalena tends to absorb strikes even in victories.
The co-main event features Quillan Salkilld as a -455 favorite over veteran Beneil Dariush at +350. Salkilld won three fights in 2025, including a knockout of the year candidate over Nasrat Haqparast.
The preliminary card begins at 4 a.m. ET on Paramount+, with the main card starting at 7 a.m. ET. All UFC Fight Night events are included with Paramount+ subscriptions starting at $8.99 per month.
