A Miami judge refused to dismiss criminal charges against professional boxer Gervonta Davis in a domestic violence case that has led the fighter to file a $20 million countersuit against his accuser.
Davis, 31, was arrested in January on charges of battery, false imprisonment and attempted kidnapping related to an alleged incident at a Miami Gardens gentlemen’s club on October 27, 2024. The woman involved is his ex-girlfriend who worked at the club.
New video obtained by TMZ Sports shows part of the encounter. Prosecutors claim Davis grabbed the woman by her hair and throat and forced her down a flight of stairs at the club.

Defense Argues Case Is Extortion Attempt
In court Wednesday, Davis’ defense attorneys asked the judge to throw out the case. They argued prosecutors failed to properly review evidence before filing charges.
The judge denied the motion to dismiss. Defense attorney Simon Steckel said the video doesn’t tell the full story.
“Within an hour or so after that video was made, she went home with him and spent the next nine hours with him with no fear, with no problems, and that’s also documented and videotaped,” Steckel said.
Steckel called the case a “shakedown” tied to Davis’ upcoming fight schedule. “We believe this is a shakedown by the alleged victim of Mr. Davis for money because he had a fight coming up within two weeks after this alleged incident in which he was scheduled to make a lot of money in a fight with Jake Paul,” he said.
Davis has pleaded not guilty to all criminal charges. His trial is scheduled to begin May 26.
Boxer Files $20 Million Countersuit
The five-time boxing champion filed a countersuit seeking more than $20 million in damages. In the filing, Davis denied allegations of battery and false imprisonment, stating he never struck or choked the woman.
The countersuit claims the woman previously demanded $1.1 million to drop the matter. Davis’ legal team alleges she was the “initial aggressor” and provoked the encounter as part of a scheme to obtain money.
According to the countersuit, the woman suffered no injuries and told her employer she was unharmed after the incident. The documents also state the two spent the night together at her residence following the alleged attack.
Davis argues the accusations cost him a high-profile bout against Jake Paul that would have earned him upwards of $20 million. Paul fought Anthony Joshua instead after Davis was replaced.
Legal representatives for the accuser have moved to dismiss the counterclaim. Their motion argues that a person cannot be sued for reporting an alleged crime.
The Baltimore native faces a felony count of attempted kidnapping and a misdemeanor count of battery in the criminal case. He maintains his innocence regarding all criminal and civil allegations.
The undefeated boxer’s legal battles continue on both civil and criminal fronts as the May trial date approaches.
