The UFC should look to make a lightweight tournament now that Khabib Nurmagomedov has retired from the sport.
Well, that’s what Patrick Auger and Matthew Wells believe.
Wells would like to see a four-man tournament featuring Justin Gaethje, Dustin Poirier, Tony Ferguson, and Conor McGregor.
Auger says that a lightweight tournament could even be a six-man or eight-man contest, with the likes of Michael Chandler, Dan Hooker, Charles Oliveira, and Paul Felder all thrown into the mix, too.
It’s a perfect opportunity for the UFC to be creative with the lightweight division now that a title is up for grabs.
Unfortunately, this seems like an unrealistic possibility, because the UFC is almost certainly looking at turning Conor McGregor vs. Dustin Poirier into a fight for the UFC Lightweight Championship.
It’s an opportunity too good to be missed by the UFC and they’ll likely do everything they can to get McGregor fighting for a title once more.
But, wouldn’t a tournament be nice?
