John Gotti III wins his MMA debut

John Gotti III, the grandson of infamous mob boss John Gotti, is set to return to the cage at CES 56 against DeVon Mosley (3-2), the Connecticut-based promotion announced today.

Gotti, who is currently undefeated at 3-0 as a professional, is one of the most high-profile prospects on the regional circuit. As a fighter, Gotti’s three straight first-round knockouts are certainly eye-opening, but his surname is certainly one reason why so many are following the young New Yorker’s career.

Gotti’s grandfather, John Gotti, was one of America’s most notorious mobsters. For approximately seven years, Gotti was boss to the infamous Gambino crime family, a powerful organized crime outlet out of New York.

Gotti was accused – and in some cases convicted – of a litany of crimes, including conspiracy to commit murder, murder, racketeering, tax evasion, and obstruction of justice, as well as a host of other crimes.

As a result of his flamboyant personality and ability to evade conviction, Gotti earned the monikers, “The Dapper Don” and “The Teflon Don”, respectively.

Gotti’s son and Gotti III’s father, John Gotti Jr., was also a leader of the Gambino family, taking over once his father was sent to prison in 1992. Gotti Jr., too, had a knack for avoiding guilty verdicts, earning a reputation for being “Teflon Jr.”

Unlike his father and grandfather, John Gotti III is not running an organized crime family. Like them, however, he has remained “Teflon” to this point.

Looking to be the first man to defeat Gotti III is DeVon Mosley, seven-year pro out of Virginia.

Mosley, 34, hasn’t fought since 2014, where he was stopped with strikes in the first round of a regional bout by Elder Ramos in Virginia. Despite having a less-than-stellar record, Mosley will be Gotti III’s most seasoned opponent to date.

Gotti III will look to extend his undefeated streak in this bout, while Mosley will look to return to the win column after five years away from the sport.

CES 56 is scheduled for May 31, and the event will take place in Hartford, Connecticut. For viewers around the world, the event will air on UFC Fight Pass.

The increasingly star-studded CES 56 card currently includes:

  • Bruce Boyington (16-11) (c) vs. Dan Dubuque (8-2) – for the CES featherweight title
  • Nick Newell (14-2) vs. Kalvin Hackney (16-5)
  • John Gotti III (3-0) vs. DeVon Mosley (3-2)
