Weili Zhang vs. Joanna Jedrzejczyk is The Body Lock’s 2020 Fight of the Year 1

In March 2020, Weili Zhang and Joanna Jedrzejczyk stood toe-to-toe for 25 minutes and delivered what is now widely considered as the greatest women’s fight in UFC history.

Zhang and Jedrzejczyk rattled each other’s heads with all kinds of devastating blows and the damage soon appeared on the faces of both competitors. Zhang was bloodied and bruised, and Jedrzejczyk was sporting one of the largest hematomas ever seen in the sport. The pace never faltered and by the end of it all, Zhang retained the UFC Women’s Strawweight Championship by winning a split decision (48-47, 47-48, 48-47) against the former champion.

All six of us here at The Body Lock agreed that Zhang vs. Jedrzejczyk was the best fight of the year.

Auger, Wells, and Riggs couldn’t be split and the trio shared identical first, second, and third-place votes for “Fight of the Year” in 2020. The panel agreed that Zhang vs. Jedrzejczyk was the clear winner with Figueiredo vs. Moreno taking the runner-up spot followed by Poirier vs. Hooker in third-place.
