UFC 280 Fight Card: Oliveira vs. Makhachev schedule 1

The UFC returns to Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, this weekend with the highly-anticipated UFC 280 fight card featuring two title fights and a main card and preliminary card packed with excellent matchups.

The UFC 280 main event is a UFC Lightweight Championship bout between Charles Oliveira and Islam Makhachev. Oliveira, the former champion, won the title when he defeated Michael Chandler by second-round TKO at UFC 262 in May last year. He then went on to defend the title against Dustin Poirier, winning that bout via a third-round rear-naked choke.

But the title is back up for grabs this weekend after Oliveira was stripped of his title following a botched weigh-in at UFC 274 in May. Oliveira weighed in slightly heavy at 155.5 pounds instead of the 155-pound championship limit and was unable to reclaim the title despite defeating Justin Gaethje that weekend.

Makhachev gets his shot at the lightweight title in Abu Dhabi and also his first real opportunity to face a top-quality fighter in the division. Makhachev enters this fight after an impressive ten-fight win streak that dates back to 2016. His most recent victories include stoppage wins against Bobby Green, Dan Hooker, Thiago Moises, and Drew Dober.

Also on the UFC 280 fight card is a UFC Bantamweight Championship bout between Aljamain Sterling and TJ Dillashaw. UFC 280 will mark Sterling’s second title defense after he successfully retained the title following a split decision win against Petr Yan at UFC 273. Former two-time champion TJ Dillashaw returned to the bantamweight division in July last year, defeating Cory Sandhagen following a two-year hiatus due to a USADA suspension.

Moments before the two title fights at UFC 280, former champion Petr Yan and Sean O’Malley will collide in what should be an explosive three-round bantamweight fight. Beneil Dariush vs. Mateusz Gamrot and Katlyn Chookagian vs. Manon Fiorot make up the rest of the UFC 280 PPV fight card.
