Valentina Shevchenko and Jessica Eye face each other before UFC 238

Shevchenko will be making her first title defense after winning the UFC Women’s Flyweight Championship against Joanna Jedrzejczyk. Eye is the top-ranked contender in the division but enters this fight as a significant betting underdog.

Round one:

Valentina Shevchenko lands a couple of strikes to begin the round before then securing a relatively easy takedown to get things going. She lands in half guard and then passes into side control after about 30 seconds. Shevchenko advances to full mount but Eye recovers half guard. Right now, Shevchenko is staying heavy on top but not doing any damage.

Eye gets back to her feet with one minute remaining in the round. Shevchenko maintains control and then drags her back down to the mat with ease. She lands in side control but is unable to posture up and start striking at the moment. Complete domination for the duration of the round, but not a lot of damage.

Round two:

Valentina Shevchenko crushes Jessica Eye with a devastating head kick in round two. She throws up a left high kick with full force and the shin connects perfectly on the side of Eye’s head. Eye falls to the ground and is unresponsive for several minutes.

Shevchenko’s reign as the unstoppable force in the flyweight division continues.
