The debates are now closed — Stipe Miocic is the greatest heavyweight of all time.
Miocic defended his heavyweight title after a unanimous decision victory over Daniel Cormier at the UFC 252 headliner on Saturday night. As a result, Miocic not only came out of the rivalry as the winner, but for many, cemented his place as the greatest heavyweight of all time.
And he certainly believes that to be the case as well.
“Yeah, man. We’ll see on Monday then — everybody’s going to change their opinion. I always get sh*t on,” Miocic joked at the UFC 252 post-fight press conference when asked if he considered himself the greatest heavyweight of all time.
“Listen man, I’m just happy to cement my legacy. Only reason I’m happy to cement my legacy is to show my daughter, if we have more kids, show them that hard work pays off. If you do something and you put your mind and effort into it, you do good things.”
Miocic’s accolades certainly prove him one of the greatest UFC fighters of all time.
He is a two-time champion, holds two wins over a pound-for-pound great in Cormier in addition to victories over a number of big names, holds the record for most consecutive heavyweight title defenses and has avenged all but one of his three losses.
So is there anything left for the Ohio native to do?
“There are lot of things to improve, man,” he said. “Keep winning. I like winning, winning’s fun.
“… My family, my daughter [motivate me]. I want to make sure they have a great life. I want to make sure they’re taken care of. God forbid, something happens to me, they’re going to be taken care of.”
