Robert Whittaker before facing Yoel Romero a second time at UFC 225

The UFC touches base in Dublin, Ireland, on August 15, and what better way to mark its return to the nation than with a pivotal middleweight matchup.

ESPN confirmed earlier today that the promotion is finalizing a headline bout between former champion Robert Whittaker and Darren Till.

Whittaker last competed at UFC 243 in October, where he dropped the UFC Middleweight Championship to current champion Israel Adesanya in Melbourne, Australia. He was expected to return earlier in the year, however, an unknown personal matter meant that he was unable to compete against rumored opponent Jared Cannonier. “The Reaper” will be looking to bounce back emphatically, and what better way to do so with someone as notable and respected as his August 15 opponent.

As for Darren Till, he successfully made his 185-pound debut in November, strategically outpointing Kelvin Gastelum over the course of three rounds. It’s no surprise to see the Brit headlining yet another European card and UFC Dublin will be his fifth main event.

The fight will have a significant impact on the middleweight division and the victory will likely put themselves in line for a fight that would determine the next title challenger, behind Paulo Costa.

The August 15 card in Dublin will take place at the 3Arena.
