Former UFC welterweight champion Belal Muhammad will attempt to end his first career losing streak when he faces Gabriel Bonfim in the main event of UFC Vegas 118 on Saturday night at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.

Muhammad, who holds a 24-5 record, lost his welterweight title to Jack Della Maddalena before suffering a decision loss to Ian Machado Garry in October 2025. The back-to-back defeats mark the first time in Muhammad’s UFC career he has lost consecutive fights.

    Bonfim Riding Four-Fight Win Streak

Gabriel Bonfim enters the fight with a 19-1 record and momentum on his side. The 28-year-old Brazilian has won four straight fights and currently ranks 11th in the welterweight division.

Bonfim has finished 13 of his 19 career victories by submission. He submitted Khaos Williams with a Brabo choke in February 2025, then knocked out Randy Brown with a clinch knee in the second round at UFC Fight Night in November 2025.

The fight will be Bonfim’s first scheduled for five rounds. His previous three-round fights have shown some cardio concerns, particularly in his 2023 loss to Nicolas Dalby where he faded in the later stages.

Betting Lines Shift Before Fight Night

Muhammad opened as the betting favorite at around -140 but the line has moved significantly. As of Saturday morning, most sportsbooks list the fight as nearly even, with Muhammad at -122 and Bonfim at +102 on DraftKings.

Some betting analysts project Bonfim as a slight favorite based on recent form. The public betting consensus shows 61% of bettors backing the former champion despite his recent struggles.

Muhammad’s wrestling and takedown defense rate of 90% will be tested against Bonfim’s submission game. The 37-year-old failed to complete any of his seven takedown attempts in his loss to Garry.

Bonfim stands two inches taller than Muhammad at 6-foot-1 and is nine years younger. However, Muhammad has proven cardio advantages, having gone the distance in four different five-round fights during his career.

The over/under is set at 3.5 rounds, with the under listed at +145 and the over at -188. This suggests oddsmakers expect the fight to go the distance rather than end in a finish.

Muhammad lands 4.43 significant strikes per minute compared to Bonfim’s 4.61. Bonfim also holds the edge in striking accuracy at 46% versus Muhammad’s 43%.

The main event fighters are expected to make their cage walks at approximately 10:15 p.m. ET on Saturday. The entire UFC Vegas 118 card will stream on Paramount+.

Muhammad has not been finished since a 2016 loss to Vicente Luque. His defensive wrestling and ability to control the pace over five rounds remain his primary weapons despite the recent setbacks against top-ranked opponents.
