UFC 327 takes place Saturday night at Kaseya Center in Miami, Florida, featuring a vacant light heavyweight championship fight between former titleholder Jiri Prochazka and No. 3-ranked Carlos Ulberg.
The belt became available after Alex Pereira moved up to the heavyweight division to challenge for that title. Both fighters have demonstrated knockout power in recent performances.
Prochazka Returns to Title Contention
Prochazka enters the fight with a 32-5-1 record and has earned seven post-fight bonuses in eight UFC appearances. The Czech fighter has won his last two bouts by knockout, defeating Jamahal Hill and Khalil Rountree Jr.
The former RIZIN champion has 28 knockouts in 32 career victories. He originally won the UFC light heavyweight title by submitting Glover Teixeira before losing it to Pereira.
“This is the opponent that I really need, because he’s fast, he loves to move on the legs,” Prochazka told UFC.com. “I see him as a really dangerous animal that I like to hunt.”
Prochazka’s fighting style relies on unpredictability and constant pressure. The 33-year-old switches stances frequently and uses sporadic feints to close distance on opponents.
Ulberg Looks to Capture First Title
Ulberg brings a 13-1 record into the fight, having won nine straight since losing his UFC debut to Kennedy Nzechukwu in 2021. The 35-year-old New Zealander has finished six of those nine victories.
The City Kickboxing product trains alongside former middleweight champion Israel Adesanya. Ulberg has spent years imitating Pereira’s style in training, which could prove valuable against Prochazka.
“We’ve seen that Jiri could be a possible opponent, whether it be for the title or not,” Ulberg told UFC.com. “We’ve always been ready.”
Ulberg defeated Jan Blachowicz and Dominick Reyes in his most recent fights. He relies on educated jab work and counter-striking rather than wild exchanges.
The 6-foot-4 fighter does much of his work with his left hand despite fighting from an orthodox stance. His kickboxing background includes powerful leg kicks and hooks that counter aggressive opponents.
Analysts view the matchup as a contrast between Prochazka’s chaotic pressure and Ulberg’s systematic approach. Prochazka has shown vulnerability to left-sided strikes due to his tendency to dip heavily when slipping punches.
The co-main event features Paulo Costa moving up from middleweight to face undefeated Azamat Murzakanov. Costa holds a 15-4 record but has lost four of his last six fights.
The card also includes heavyweight contender Curtis Blaydes facing Josh Hokit. Former light heavyweight title challenger Dominick Reyes fights Johnny Walker, while Nate Landwehr meets retiring veteran Cub Swanson.
Betting odds have shifted since the fight was announced, with FanDuel currently listing Prochazka at -117 and Ulberg at -102. The event streams on Paramount+ starting Saturday night.
