Former UFC flyweight champion Brandon Moreno made his position crystal clear when asked about the upcoming White House fight card during a media day appearance ahead of UFC Mexico City. The 32-year-old Mexican fighter showed no interest in being part of the event.
“Brother, I want you to tell me why I would want to be there,” Moreno said when a reporter asked if he would consider competing at the planned June 14 White House card. His response was direct and left no room for interpretation.
When the journalist suggested the event would be special, Moreno pushed back immediately. “For what?” he responded.
The reporter tried again, saying the event would be important for the company. Moreno countered by asking, “For you?” before delivering his final answer: “I’m not interested. Thank you very much.”

Focus on Mexico City Fight
Moreno is set to headline UFC Fight Night at Arena CDMX in Mexico City this Saturday, February 28, where he faces Lone’er Kavanagh. The bout represents another chance for “The Assassin Baby” to compete in front of his home country fans.
The former champion is currently ranked sixth in the flyweight division. He is looking to bounce back from a TKO loss to Tatsuro Taira at UFC 323 last December.
Moreno has long been a proud representative of Mexico, frequently carrying the Mexican flag during his walkouts and post-fight celebrations. He made history as the first Mexican-born champion in UFC history when he captured the flyweight title.
White House Event Draws Mixed Reactions
The UFC White House card has generated considerable conversation in MMA circles since UFC CEO Dana White announced plans for the special event. The card was initiated by President Donald Trump himself and is scheduled for June 14 in Washington, D.C.
Several UFC fighters have openly campaigned for spots on the card, viewing it as a high-profile opportunity. Others have quietly distanced themselves from the political crossover event.
Moreno’s response stands out as one of the most direct rejections of the concept. While many fighters have carefully navigated questions about the political nature of the event, the Mexican star showed no interest in playing it safe.
Moreno’s UFC career includes multiple title fights and a historic four-bout rivalry with Deiveson Figueiredo. He captured the flyweight championship by submitting Figueiredo in 2021, which kicked off a series that defined the division for several years.
After capturing and reclaiming the flyweight belt during his rivalry with Figueiredo, Moreno lost the title to Alexandre Pantoja at UFC 290. A win over Kavanagh this weekend could help him move back into title contention.
Moreno is approaching the ten-year anniversary of his UFC debut. He made his MMA debut in April 2011 and has become one of Mexico’s biggest mixed martial arts stars.
