Luana Santos will take time away from mixed martial arts competition following her recent victory at UFC Vegas 123. The 26-year-old Brazilian fighter extended her winning streak to four with a unanimous decision win over Yana Santos.

In an interview with Brazilian outlet AG Fight, Santos revealed she has scheduled breast enhancement surgery. She plans to return to competition around May 2026.

“I’m going to get breast implants,” Santos told AG Fight. “For sure… I already have the surgery date scheduled.”

Santos said she won’t reveal the exact date of her surgery because “people send negative energy.” She plans to complete the procedure before her next fight and joked she’ll return as “Luana 2.0.”

    Recovery Timeline and Fighting Schedule

The typical recovery period for breast augmentation surgery ranges from four to six weeks, depending on potential complications. Santos believes the break is justified given her recent fight schedule.

“I had two fights in four months,” Santos explained. “I think I deserve this time off.”

This marks the first time Santos has taken a hiatus specifically for cosmetic surgery. She previously took nine months off after losing to Casey O’Neill at UFC 305 in August 2024 to transition from flyweight to bantamweight.

Santos returned in May 2025 against Tainara Lisboa and scored a second-round finish. She has now won four consecutive fights in the bantamweight division.

Several other UFC fighters have undergone breast augmentation surgery, including Cat Zingano, Maycee Barber, and Pearl Gonzalez. None of them reportedly took extended breaks specifically for the procedures.

    Medical Concerns and Commission Rules

Fighters with breast implants can face certain medical risks inside the cage. Repeated strikes to the chest area could cause swelling, and implant rupture remains a possibility.

Athletic commissions have sometimes taken strict positions on fighters with breast implants. In 2017, the New York State Athletic Commission initially pulled Pearl Gonzalez from her fight against Cynthia Calvillo at UFC 210.

The commission cited violations of rules regarding breast implants. After “careful consideration,” the NYSAC eventually allowed the bout to proceed.

Maycee Barber has continued competing in the UFC without reported issues after her enhancement procedure. Santos may not face similar complications when she returns.

Santos currently ranks No. 3 in the bantamweight division according to Meta rankings. She has already identified potential opponents for her comeback.

Before her UFC Vegas 123 fight, Santos mentioned interest in facing No. 2-ranked Ailin Perez or No. 1-ranked Joselyne Edwards. Both fighters are on winning streaks and have fought each other.

“I think it’s definitely possible that I could get the next title shot, depending on how I win,” Santos said. “If I get a submission or a knockout, and I’m not next in line, then I’ll be one win away from a title shot.”

Joselyne Edwards is currently serving as the backup fighter for the Kayla Harrison vs. Amanda Nunes championship fight at UFC 334. Santos aims to return to competition in May 2026 after completing her surgery and recovery.
