Middleweight fighter Kyle Daukaus says he expects more pressure fighting at UFC Edmonton this Saturday than when he competed at the White House earlier this year. The matchup against Marc-Andre Barriault takes place at Rogers Place in Barriault’s home country of Canada.
Daukaus competed at UFC Freedom 250 on the White House grounds in June, where he faced Bo Nickal. Despite the high-profile location, the event had limited fan access.

Crowd Size Makes the Difference
The 17-5 fighter spoke to media outlets on Wednesday about the differences between the two events. He explained that the larger crowd expected in Edmonton creates a different atmosphere than the White House card.
“It was a spectacle of an event, obviously. It was a lot of pressure on you, a lot of eyes on you,” Daukaus said about the White House fight. “Going out there and fighting for that and then coming here, there’s going to be more fans here I expect, because we’re on the main card.”
Daukaus believes the arena will be sold out for Saturday’s event. He also mentioned that fighting Barriault in his home country adds another layer of pressure to the bout.
“I would expect more pressure for this one just based off the fan aspect, and fighting the hometown guy, and fighting in this country,” Daukaus explained.
The middleweight appears unfazed by the prospect of playing spoiler in Canada. He stated that location and opponent background don’t change his approach to fights.
“It doesn’t really matter if I fight a guy that’s in his hometown, or we fight in Brazil or China or whatnot,” Daukaus said. “I’m just here to win.”
Reading Helps Pass Fight Week Time
Daukaus revealed he has developed a new habit to help manage the downtime during fight week. His wife is an avid reader, and the fighter has started following her example.
He recently picked up the book series Dungeon Crawler Carl. The reading helps take his mind off the upcoming fight during the long stretches of free time.
“I have a lot of free time now, so I can just get some chapters read,” Daukaus noted. “It takes my mind off the fighting. I have a lot of down time here throughout fight week.”
The fighter treats fight week as a mini vacation. He and his wife explore the host city and find activities to fill the time between training and media obligations.
“For Fight Week for me, it’s something that I kind of make it a vacation, we go around the city, find some things to do and whatnot,” he said. “I read when I can.”
Barriault fights in front of his home country crowd on Saturday night. The bout appears on the main card at Rogers Place in Edmonton.
