Retired UFC fighter Jorge Masvidal has confirmed that talks are underway for a potential fight against Conor McGregor at the historic UFC White House event scheduled for June 14, 2026. Speaking with MMA reporter Ariel Helwani, Masvidal said the situation is “not looking bad right now.”

“We’re talking,” Masvidal told Helwani during a recent interview on The Ariel Helwani Show. “Dialogue has been opened. There’s communication there. We’ll keep that communication going.”

Masvidal, who is 41 years old and has been retired since 2023, expressed strong interest in competing on the White House card. The event is planned to take place on the South Lawn of the White House in Washington, D.C.

“The White House card for me is everything,” Masvidal said. “I want to be on this card very bad.”

    Manager Working With UFC Officials

Masvidal’s manager Ali Abdelaziz is reportedly in regular contact with UFC President Dana White and UFC executive Hunter Campbell about making the fight happen. The retired fighter confirmed that discussions are ongoing with both McGregor’s camp and UFC leadership.

Masvidal said he is willing to fight McGregor at most weights above 155 pounds if that’s what it takes to make the bout happen. Both fighters have never faced each other inside the octagon despite being two of the bigger names in UFC history.

McGregor, who is 37 years old, has not fought since 2021 when he broke his leg during a fight with Dustin Poirier. Before that injury, his last win came in 2020 when he knocked out Donald Cerrone in less than one minute.

Masvidal has not won a fight since 2019 and lost four straight fights before retiring. His last fight was a loss against Gilbert Burns in 2023.

    Contract Issues and Betting Odds

McGregor recently said he plans to renegotiate his UFC contract in February 2026. He made this claim after the UFC signed a new $7.7 billion broadcast deal with Paramount+, which ended the old pay-per-view system.

McGregor said his old contract was based on pay-per-view sales, so he believes it is now “void” and needs to be updated. He said he plans to be ready for a fight at the White House event while focusing on training and getting his contract sorted out.

Sportsbooks have already set opening odds for the potential matchup. BetOnline.ag listed McGregor as a slight betting favorite at -145, with Masvidal as the +125 underdog.

McGregor was previously expected to face Michael Chandler in June at the White House event, but that matchup has now been ruled out. UFC officials have not confirmed anything yet about the promotion’s plans for the historic card.

Neither fighter has seen the win column in over six years, and they are a combined 1-7 dating back to late 2019. The promotion is not expected to begin matchmaking for UFC White House until some point next month.
