UFC president Dana White has strongly denied accusations that his promotion timed the announcement of Conor McGregor’s return to overshadow Francis Ngannou’s recent fight. White called the theory baseless and said critics are trying to create drama where none exists.

The controversy started when the UFC revealed McGregor’s upcoming bout with Max Holloway during the same weekend Ngannou competed in a boxing match. Social media users and some observers suggested the timing was intentional.

White dismissed the accusations during a post-fight media session. He called the theory “the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard” and said people are reading too much into the situation.

White Says Announcement Was Planned in Advance

The UFC president explained that McGregor’s announcement date was selected weeks ahead of time. He said the promotional calendar is planned well in advance based on business considerations.

White argued that Ngannou’s activities outside the UFC are separate from the organization’s operations. He said the promotion doesn’t make decisions based on what the former heavyweight champion is doing in boxing or other ventures.

The UFC boss accused critics of pushing a manufactured controversy. He said people looking for a feud between the UFC and Ngannou are inventing problems that don’t exist.

White also pointed out that McGregor remains the sport’s biggest draw. He said announcement timing for McGregor’s fights is based on maximizing attention for the UFC’s biggest star, not on responding to former fighters.

Dana White is asked about the timing of the Conor McGregor announcement.

Dana: I had fucking fight here that night. Anybody who thinks that I gave a shit what was going on anywhere else is out of their fucking minds…We announced it as soon as we got it done and we were in the… pic.twitter.com/m3RhDHepn8

McGregor Returns After Five Years Away

McGregor will return to the octagon on July 11 at UFC 329 in Las Vegas. The fight marks his first appearance in nearly five years.

His opponent will be Max Holloway in a rematch of their 2013 bout. McGregor won that first meeting by unanimous decision in Boston.

The fight will take place at T-Mobile Arena during International Fight Week. It will be the main event of the card.

Holloway is coming off a loss to Charles Oliveira at UFC 326 in March. The former featherweight champion lost a decision in that BMF title fight.

White emphasized that the UFC makes promotional decisions based on business strategy, not personal vendettas. He said critics who claim the McGregor announcement was meant to be “petty” are wrong.

The UFC president said he won’t let speculation about Ngannou distract from major announcements. He insisted the organization focuses on its own roster and schedule.

McGregor opened as an underdog in early betting lines for the Holloway rematch. The fight represents a major test for the Irish star after his long layoff from competition.
