UFC CEO Dana White announced today that former middleweight champion Israel Adesanya will face rising contender Joe Pyfer in the main event of UFC Seattle on March 28, 2026. The fight takes place at Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle, Washington.
The announcement generated mixed reactions from fans on social media. Many called the reveal disappointing despite Adesanya’s star power as a former champion.
Adesanya Looks to End Three-Fight Skid
Adesanya enters the bout facing the longest losing streak of his UFC career. The 24-5 fighter most recently suffered a knockout loss to Nassourdine Imavov at UFC Saudi Arabia.
Before that defeat, Adesanya lost his middleweight title to Sean Strickland at UFC 293. He then suffered a submission loss to Dricus du Plessis at UFC 305.
Joe Pyfer gets a massive opportunity as he takes on Israel Adesanya in the main event of UFC Seattle!
Can "BodyBagz" put away the former two-time UFC Middleweight champ or will Adesanya get back in the win column? 🤔

Despite three straight losses, Adesanya remains ranked No. 6 in the middleweight division. The former champion is still considered one of UFC’s most reliable headliners.
Adesanya posted a reaction on social media after the announcement hinting at excitement for the matchup. He has previously stated his intention to finish his career in the UFC rather than move to boxing.
Pyfer Gets Career-Defining Opportunity
For Pyfer, the fight represents the biggest opportunity of his career. The Philadelphia knockout artist holds a 15-3 record and enters on a three-fight winning streak.
Pyfer suffered his first UFC loss to Jack Hermansson in his first UFC main event. He has since rebounded with impressive performances across all three wins.
He started his winning streak with a brutal knockout of Marc-Andre Barriault at UFC 303. Pyfer then defeated former title contender Kelvin Gastelum by decision at UFC 316.
Most recently, Pyfer submitted Abus Magomedov at UFC 320 in October 2025. The submission victory showcased his evolving skill set beyond his knockout power.
A victory over Adesanya would instantly vault Pyfer into the middleweight top 10 rankings. The unranked contender faces a former champion who has headlined some of UFC’s biggest events.
UFC Seattle also features a women’s flyweight co-main event between Alexa Grasso and Maycee Barber. Other confirmed bouts include Casey O’Neill vs. Gabriella Fernandes and Marcin Tybura vs. Valter Walker.
The card also includes Nicolle Caliari vs. Carol Fiori, Mansur Abdul-Malik vs. Yousri Belgaroui, and Zhu Kangjie vs. Marcio Barbosa. Climate Pledge Arena hosted a UFC event last year that broke previous gate records.
The March 28 card marks UFC’s return to Seattle and will air on Paramount+. White made the announcement on January 14, 2026, fulfilling his promise to reveal the main event.
