Colby Covington after winning a UFC fight

UFC 245 is less than two weeks away and features a stacked card for the promotion’s end-of-year event. Three title fights are on the agenda but the biggest one is naturally the headliner between current welterweight champion Kamaru Usman and Colby Covington.

When the fight was first announced, Usman — undefeated in the UFC — opened as the -275 betting favorite. Covington, meanwhile, was a +215 underdog.

However, as the event draws closer, the odds have tightened quite a bit. “The Nigerian Nightmare” has now dropped to a -185 favorite while “Chaos” is a +155 underdog.

That means you would need to bet $185 on Usman (as opposed to $275) to win $100 while a $100 wager on Covington would win you $155 (compared to $215).

It appears that more and more money is going on Covington as the fight nears. It’s a pretty smart bet to make given how Covington is 10-1 with the UFC and has a similar style to Usman. The odds may continue to tighten from here on out so if you still want to take a chance on Covington, now could be the best time.

For comparison, here are the opening odds for the pair’s last five fights:

Kamaru Usman last five fights

  • vs. Tyron Woodley (W): +105
  • vs. Rafael dos Anjos (W): -215
  • vs. Demian Maia (W): -175

  • vs. Sergio Moraes (W): -440

  • vs. Rafael dos Anjos (W): +150
  • vs. Demian Maia (W): -140
  • vs. Dong Hyun Kim (W): -195
