Justin Gaethje looks on during his fight with Eddie Alvarez during UFC 218

Justin Gaethje believes if anyone, other than himself, can defeat undefeated UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov, it’s Tony Ferguson.

Boasting a 12-fight win streak, Ferguson is ideally next in line to challenge the winner of Nurmagomedov vs. Dustin Poirier which takes place at UFC 242 on September 7. If “The Eagle” emerges victorious and the UFC books that title bout next, it would be the fifth attempt in making that dream fight happen.

Meanwhile, another dream fight involving Ferguson is against Gaethje. After all, both are violent fighters who constantly produce finishes and performance bonuses. And if it was even possible, “El Cucuy” is a fighter that even Gaethje deems as scary.

“Great fight,” Gaethje told Helen Yee when asked about Ferguson vs. Donald Cerrone. “Pretty much how I thought it would go. He’s a scary man. Figuratively and literally, he’s a scary man. He’s obviously not scared of anything. He’s a tough out and I can’t wait to fight him.”

Gaethje, however, acknowledges that Ferguson should be fighting for the title next. And “The Highlight” believes Ferguson’s style is more than capable of giving Nurmagomedov problems and potentially inflicting the first-ever defeat of his career.

“I don’t know, I think he’s super dangerous from the bottom. I don’t think Khabib’s going to be able to sit around and be boring as usual. I think Ferguson will make him fight because he’s dangerous from the bottom, he does not stop. Hopefully, his elbows would cut up Khabib and push him to fight a different fight.

“I think anybody can be beaten in this sport,” Gaethje added when asked if Ferguson could win.
