Joseph Benavidez calls for Henry Cejudo to vacate flyweight title 1

Joseph Benavidez is tired of waiting for his title shot.

Benavidez has won three in a row as well as nine of his last 10 outings to cement his place as the next challenger for the UFC flyweight title.

His last victory was notably an impressive TKO win over Jussier Formiga. However, that was all the way back in June. The reason for his inactivity is because current flyweight champion Henry Cejudo also fought in June when he defeated Marlon Moraes to become the bantamweight champion. He later underwent shoulder surgery.

“Triple C” has since claimed he would be ready to return to action in early 2020 but appears more intent on defending his bantamweight title instead of the flyweight title.

In a recent video, Cejudo called out Jose Aldo in typical corny fashion — this, despite the latter losing a controversial but very close split decision to Moraes at UFC 245 this past weekend.

And Benavidez believes it’s obvious Cejudo has no plans on returning to flyweight.

“It’s obvious you don’t want to fight me and have no interest of going back down to flyweight,” Benavidez replied on Twitter. “Just stop stringing shit along with the company and the division. I’m ready to Fight!”

There has been talk of a potential fight between Benavidez and Deiveson Figueiredo for the vacant title if Cejudo were to vacate or get stripped of the flyweight belt.

At this point, that would make the most sense and would truly get the flyweight division back on track.
