Colby Covington speaks during his post-fight interview at UFC Newark

In the most recent episode of the JRE MMA Show, Joe Rogan was joined by former UFC heavyweight Brendan Schaub as the two discussed many topics including Jorge Masividal’s newfound stardom and the announcement of Conor McGregor vs Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone.

Along with this, the two spoke about the upcoming bout between welterweight champion Kamaru Usman and bitter rival Colby Covington, who are set to face each other at UFC 245 on December 14.

Covington’s cringe gimmick and annoying – yet effective – trash talk has made him unpopular among fans. As a result, Usman is heading into the December 14 clash with more support than ever before.

UFC commentator Joe Rogan weighed in on Covington and his gimmick, claiming that if he gets past Usman and captures welterweight gold, he could be on his way towards becoming a bona fide superstar.

“Let me tell you something,” Rogan said. “He’s a really nice guy, he’s smart as shit and his fucking discipline is unparalleled.

“People look at him with that stupid suit on and the MAGA hat carrying around Donald Trump junior’s book; it’s fucking amazing man. It is the best act that anybody has ever put on in the UFC. All these other guys are talking shit, [but] he’s talking shit as a character. He made a guy.

“If he gets through and beats Kamaru Usman, and it gets on the internet and becomes a ‘thing,’ he could be the next huge superstar. He knows what he’s doing. You and I both know that.”

The thought of Covington becoming a legitimate superstar is enough to enrage most fans.
