Deron Winn strikes Eric Spicely at UFC Greenville

After a successful Octagon debut, Deron Winn looks to be heading to Boston.

A middleweight fight between Winn and Darren Stewart is in the works for UFC on ESPN 6, multiple sources tell The Body Lock. The event will take place Oct. 18 — a rare Friday night card — at the TD Garden in Boston, Mass.

As of Tuesday, sources told The Body Lock that the fight had been verbally agreed to and that contracts would be signed shortly thereafter. Winn posted on his Twitter account Tuesday night the date of the event in Boston, which may confirm the booking.

The 30-year-old Winn made his UFC debut last month at UFC Greenville. After original opponent Markus Perez and replacement Bruno Silva were forced to withdraw from the fight with Winn, Eric Spicely would take the fight on less than a week’s notice. The fight was a back-and-forth barnburner between Winn and the returning Spicely, which lead to both competitors receiving “Fight of the Night” performance bonuses. The AKA trained Winn would come away with a unanimous decision victory to improve to 6-0 overall.

After losing the first three fights of his UFC career, Stewart has been finding himself a lot more comfortable in the Octagon. “The Dentist” would pick up his first Octagon win over Spicely at UFC Fight Night 130 in May 2018 via second-round TKO before following up with another second-round finish of Charles Byrd four months later at UFC 228. Stewart would lose a very close split decision to Edmen Shahbazyan at the TUF 28 Finale in November before bouncing back with a unanimous decision victory over Bevon Lewis at last month’s UFC 238 event.

The UFC’s return to Boston will be headlined by the light heavyweight debut of Chris Weidman as he will take on surging contender Dominick Reyes. ESPN reported Tuesday night that a women’s strawweight bout between Maycee Barber and Gillian Robertson is also being reported for the October event.
