Conor Benn suffered a crushing defeat in his first world title fight, losing to Ryan Garcia by second-round stoppage in Las Vegas on Saturday night. The British fighter was taken to the hospital as a precaution following the loss.

Garcia landed a devastating right hand that put Benn down in the second round of their WBC welterweight title fight at the T-Mobile Arena. Although Benn beat the count, referee Thomas Taylor stopped the fight after Garcia pinned him to the ropes and continued his attack.

The fight lasted just four minutes and 25 seconds. Benn, 29, was competing in his 27th professional bout but had never before challenged for a world title.

Garcia Dominates From Start to Finish

The American champion used his famous left hook effectively throughout the brief contest, forcing Benn backwards multiple times. Garcia boxed and moved brilliantly, preventing Benn from closing the distance and landing meaningful punches on the inside.

Benn’s aggressive tactics failed to work against the more experienced fighter. He left his chin exposed, and Garcia took advantage with ruthless precision.

Ryan Garcia suggests Conor Benn lied about his weight on fight day đź‘€

“I’m gonna tell the truth here, I didn’t feel his power. I didn’t feel his size, not at all. There’s no way he rehydrated to 180…

He must’ve had eggs in his pockets.” pic.twitter.com/tXwErPO7dp

The 26-year-old Garcia improved his record to 26 wins and two losses with the victory. This was his first defense of the WBC welterweight title.

“Not my night, no excuses,” Benn posted on social media after the fight. The British fighter now holds a record of 25 wins and two losses.

    Questions About Benn’s Future

Benn has stated he plans to move up in weight to 160 pounds or even 168 pounds after struggling to make the welterweight limit. This opens the possibility of a third fight with Chris Eubank Jr, who was in attendance in Las Vegas.

Eubank Jr defeated Benn in their first meeting before Benn won the rematch at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last year. Eubank Jr mocked Benn on social media following Saturday’s loss.

A trilogy fight could take place at super-middleweight next year. However, questions remain about who would finance such an event, as the first two fights were backed by Saudi Arabia.

Benn has never competed for English, Commonwealth, British, or European titles during his career. Some observers believe missing those stepping-stone fights may have left him unprepared for world-level competition.

The Essex-based boxer is promoted by Zuffa Boxing and commands high purses. This makes it unlikely he will take lower-level bouts to rebuild his career.

Garcia said after the fight, “I hope he can come back and do great things.” The path forward for Benn remains unclear following this defeat.
