Scottish Muay Thai fighter Logan Chan won his ONE Championship debut on August 1, defeating Thai opponent Chama Sangarthit by unanimous decision at ONE Friday Fights 118. The 21-year-old from Edinburgh delivered a performance that justified his decision to wait an extra year before stepping onto the global stage.

Chan entered the bout with an impressive 24-1 professional record and ranked fourth in the UK Muay Thai Rankings. His opponent, Sangarthit from Superbon Training Camp, had been undefeated in ONE Championship with two previous wins.

The fight took place at ONE Friday Fights 118, which was broadcast live on Sky Sports YouTube Channel. Chan’s victory marked the end of Sangarthit’s unbeaten streak in the promotion.

    Delayed Debut Pays Off

Chan had turned down an opportunity to join ONE Championship the previous year, choosing instead to focus on completing his university degrees and gaining more fight experience. The Scottish fighter said he wanted to be “100 per cent ready” before making his global debut.

That was a performance of a life time from Logan Chan, domination from start to finish, I can imagine we’d see a 30-27 from all three judges πŸ’ͺ🏽

“I initially turned it down because of uni and I already had fights and stuff booked at home, but I knew that it was going to come,” Chan said before the fight. “I just wanted to make sure I was 100 per cent ready too and I just felt like if I took it last year, I didn’t want to take it too soon.”

The extra preparation time appears to have served Chan well. He has been building toward this level of competition for years, and his performance against a previously undefeated opponent demonstrated his readiness for ONE’s elite roster.

    Fast-Paced Fighting Style

Chan described his fighting approach as “very fast-paced” and said he prefers the three-round Muay Thai format used in ONE Championship compared to traditional five-round bouts. The promotion’s use of 4oz gloves, while presenting additional dangers, suits his style.

“It comes with its dangers with the small gloves. You’ve got to watch out for a lot more,” Chan explained. “There’s not much room for error, but I do believe it suits my style a lot. And I do like to throw a lot of flashy stuff.”

The young fighter emphasized his entertainment-focused approach to the sport. “Hopefully, people will have a lot of fun watching me because I like to have fun when I fight,” he said.

Chan recognized the global reach of ONE Championship compared to regional venues. “It’s not just Bangkok or Lumpini that are watching you when you’re on ONE, it’s the entire world,” he said before his debut.

The victory puts Chan on the map in ONE Championship, which features some of the world’s top Muay Thai and kickboxing talent. He has expressed interest in eventually facing Kickboxing champion Jonathon Haggerty.

Before his debut, Chan made a confident prediction about his future in the sport. “Watch out for me. I believe I’m going to be a superstar,” he said. “No matter what happens in this fight or what happens in the following fights coming up, I do believe that I am going to blow up.”

The unanimous decision victory over Sangarthit at ONE Friday Fights 118 marks the beginning of Chan’s journey on the world’s largest martial arts stage.
