Shakur Stevenson became a four-division world champion Saturday night with a dominant unanimous decision victory over Teofimo Lopez Jr. at Madison Square Garden in New York.
All three judges scored the fight 119-109 for Stevenson, who moved up in weight to challenge Lopez at junior welterweight. The 28-year-old Stevenson improved his record to 25-0 with 11 knockouts.
Lopez fell to 22-2 with 13 knockouts in what was his fourth defense of the WBO 140-pound belt. He had won six straight fights since losing to George Kambosos Jr. in 2021.
Stevenson Takes Control Early
Stevenson took control of the fight by the third round and never let Lopez back into the contest. Lopez struggled to land punches and could not avoid Stevenson’s jab all night long.
The fight represented Stevenson’s best performance in the biggest fight of his career. He controlled 11 of the 12 rounds with superior footwork and ring control.
Lopez, a former unified lightweight champion, never posed a serious threat at any point in the fight. Stevenson bloodied Lopez late in the bout while maintaining complete control.
Stevenson is now a world champion in four different weight classes after previous titles at featherweight, junior lightweight, and lightweight. He was coming off a dominant victory over William Zepeda in July 2025.
Post-Fight Callout Creates Tension
After the final bell, Stevenson called out British boxer Conor Benn, who was sitting ringside at Madison Square Garden. The callout led to a heated exchange between the two fighters.
Both boxers expressed interest in fighting each other during the ringside confrontation. The potential matchup generated immediate buzz among fans at the arena.
Lopez captured the WBO super lightweight title with a unanimous decision win over Josh Taylor in June 2023. He also owns wins over Vasiliy Lomachenko in 2020 and Arnold Barboza Jr. in May 2025.
The scorecards showed complete agreement among the three judges. Max DeLuca, Eric Marlinski, and Steve Weisfeld all scored the fight identically at 119-109.
Stevenson’s performance puts him in position to challenge for the top pound-for-pound rankings in boxing. He showed he can compete effectively at 140 pounds in his division debut.
The loss marks the worst defeat of Lopez’s professional career. He had never been outclassed so thoroughly in a fight before Saturday night.
Stevenson maintained his undefeated record while adding another world title to his collection. The Newark, New Jersey native has now won world championships across four different weight divisions.
