Former UFC light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz has made waves with his recent comments about current champion Alex Pereira. The 50-year-old fighter believes he would dominate Pereira if both were in their prime.
Ortiz made the comments during an appearance on the JAXXON podcast. When asked how he would fare against Pereira, Ortiz showed no hesitation in his response.
“I would double-leg the shit out of him,” Ortiz said. “He ain’t stopping, and he ain’t getting away from me.”
Ortiz held the light heavyweight title from 2000 to 2002. During his reign, he successfully defended the belt five times against top competitors including Wanderlei Silva, Evan Tanner, and Ken Shamrock.
Pereira is currently in his second run as light heavyweight champion. He recently won the belt back from Magomed Ankalaev at UFC 320 with a quick knockout victory.

The Brazilian fighter previously defended the title three consecutive times during his first reign. Pereira came to the UFC as a former two-division Glory Kickboxing champion.
The Style Matchup
Ortiz built his career on wrestling and ground-and-pound tactics. He believes this style would be the perfect counter to Pereira’s striking-based approach.
Pereira is known for his one-punch knockout power. He has finished notable opponents including Jiri Prochazka, Jamahal Hill, and Ankalaev with strikes.
Ortiz compared his fighting style to modern grapplers like Khabib Nurmagomedov and Khamzat Chimaev. He thinks ground-focused fighters can beat any opponent despite their fights being less exciting.
“That type of style will win every single fight,” Ortiz said. “Yes, it’s boring, but you’re not getting away from somebody.”
Confident in His Skills
The former champion didn’t limit his confidence to just Pereira. Ortiz believes he could compete with any fighter in the current top five rankings.
“Any of the top 5 guys,” Ortiz said. “Any of the top guys. A hundred percent, I would fight anybody, anytime.”
Ortiz thinks the UFC moves in trends between strikers and grapplers. He believes wrestling-heavy fighters like himself could dominate the heavier divisions again.

Fan Reaction
UFC fans have not supported Ortiz’s claims about beating Pereira. Many took to social media to dispute his assessment of the hypothetical matchup.
One fan suggested Ortiz has brain damage from fighting elite strikers during his career. Another fan simply wrote “No” in response to his claims.
Some fans joked about the matchup entirely. Others pointed out that Ortiz struggled against high-level strikers during his actual fighting career.
Pereira is currently looking at potential superfights for his next bout. One option is a matchup with heavyweight champion Jon Jones, which could happen at the White House in June 2026.
Pereira and Chimaev recently agreed to have a grappling match under the UFC BJJ banner. Fans would prefer to see them fight in the Octagon instead.
