The main card suffered a setback when Justin Tafa withdrew from his heavyweight bout against Louie Sutherland due to illness. Tafa did not attempt to make weight, though Sutherland successfully weighed in at 259 pounds.
This marked the second fight to fall off the UFC Perth card this week. Earlier, Oban Elliott withdrew from his planned welterweight bout with Jonathan Micallef due to illness.
Weight Miss Creates Complications
Ramon Taveras missed the 146-pound featherweight limit by one pound for his featured bout against Jack Jenkins. Taveras came in at 147 pounds, creating complications for what was expected to be a key featherweight matchup.
The weight miss affects the bout’s status and potential performance bonuses. Jenkins successfully made the 146-pound limit for featherweights.
Other main card fighters successfully made weight, including Jimmy Crute and Ivan Erslan at 205 pounds for their light heavyweight bout. Jake Matthews and Neil Magny both hit 170 pounds for their welterweight contest.
The preliminary card weigh-ins proceeded with fewer issues. Most fighters made their contracted weights without problems.

Ticket Sales Under Scrutiny
Reports from local media outlet 7News Australia suggested ticket sales for UFC Perth were disappointing. The report claimed RAC Arena was only about half full and that tickets were being discounted.
UFC Senior Vice President for International Operations Dave Shaw addressed these concerns during the press conference. Shaw stated there was no issue with ticket sales for the event.
According to TicketTek, the official ticket distributor, available seats range between $75 and $100. The company disputed claims that sales were significantly below expectations.
Shaw emphasized the UFC’s long-term commitment to the Australian market. He referenced the promotion’s 15-year history in the country, starting with UFC 110 in 2010.
The executive highlighted major events like UFC 193 in Melbourne with Ronda Rousey and Holly Holm. He also mentioned the Fight of the Year between Alexander Volkanovski and Islam Makhachev in 2023.
Shaw described Australia as one of the UFC’s top annual markets. He expressed confidence that mixed martial arts will become a major sport in the country.
The card features more Australian and New Zealand athletes than previous UFC events in the region. This represents the promotion’s strategy to develop local talent and build regional interest.
Doors open at 6 am local time on Sunday, with the event beginning at 7 am to accommodate primetime broadcasting in America. The main card starts at 10 am local time, with Ulberg and Reyes expected to fight around 1 pm.
