Jon Jones a big betting favorite against Stipe Miocic ahead of potential heavyweight debut

    Jack MillerBy Jack MillerMay 13, 2022Updated:May 13, 2022No Comments2 Mins Read

Jon Jones’ first fight in the UFC heavyweight division is expected to be against Stipe Miocic later this year and the former light heavyweight champion looks set to enter the fight as a significant betting favorite.

Jones vs. Miocic is all but confirmed as UFC President Dana White suggested that the promotion is working to book that fight this year and that an interim title may even be up for grabs. Jones later allowed more insight into the negotiations by tweeting that he’s able to wait until September, as Miocic has requested.

Stipe is saying that he will be at his absolute peak in September. I’m disappointed but patient, I want the heavyweight goat at his absolute best. I’ll wait until September. No excuses

Jon Jones vs. Stipe Miocic odds

Although Jones has been away from the sport for over two years now, the betting line for a potential fight with Miocic is heavily in his favor. The latest odds from BetUS have Jones as a -200 favorite against Miocic as a +160 underdog.

    • Jon Jones: -200
    • Stipe Miocic: +160

At odds of +160, a $100 wager on Miocic to win would return $260 if successful. Jones is listed at odds of -200 and that means a $100 bet would return $150.

Jones’ last appearance inside the UFC’s Octagon was at UFC 247 in February 2020 when he defeated Dominick Reyes via unanimous decision.  Before then, he had defended his title against Thiago Santos and Anthony Smith and first re-captured the title against Alexander Gustafsson.

Miocic is the former heavyweight champion and holds the record for most consecutive title defenses in the division after three defenses against Alistair Overeem, Junior dos Santos, and Francis Ngannou. After defeating Daniel Cormier twice to emerge as the winner of that three-fight heavyweight title series, Miocic later lost the title to Francis Ngannou in March last year.

There’s still a long way to go before Jones vs. Miocic happens but the current odds do represent a significant opportunity for those who believe Miocic can leave victorious against the former light heavyweight champion.
