Niko Price prefers BMF belt over welterweight title, wants to fight Mike Perry at UFC 244

Niko Price prepares to face Brandon Thatch in their welterweight bout during the UFC 207

With finishes in all his UFC wins, welterweight Niko Price is one of the most exciting fighters on the roster.

And like most fighters, the goal is to obviously win the title. However, it’s been nearly seven months since the welterweight crown was defended.

Current champion Kamaru Usman was expected to defend the belt against Colby Covington by now, and it looked like it would headline UFC 244 which takes place November 2 in Madison Square Garden, New York. However, negotiations fell through and Nate Diaz and Jorge Masvidal are now headlining the event for the newly-created BMF title.

And as far as Price is concerned, that is the real belt.

“I don’t even care for that fucking belt [welterweight title]. That’s some boring old school shit. I’m looking for that BMF belt,” Price told The Body Lock’s John Hyon Ko. “Where the bad motherf*ckers at? I want to get on that belt. I want the real belt. I want to fight those guys.”

“I’ll fight the winner [of Diaz vs. Masvidal] all day. I’m a BMF. Let’s go. I wanna be one. So what you gotta do? You got to fight them.”

Given Price’s style, he definitely qualifies for that accolade and one fight that is particularly BMF-worthy is with Mike Perry — another welterweight who likes to brawl and knock fighters out.

It’s a fight that Price likes as well. So much so that he wants it to be on the undercard of UFC 244.

“He had a good fight with [Vicente] Luque,” Price explained. “His nose got broke. Hey, that happens. We get fucked up. We got to heal sometimes. But when he heals, I’m right here all day. So I’m cool with that too. I’ll fight him whenever. I’ll fight him for a BMF. Let’s go. Put us on the card for Nate and Jorge. As long as I don’t get hurt in the next fight.”

That next fight is with James Vick at UFC Tampa on October 12. Vick is making his welterweight debut after three straight losses at lightweight.

Price still rates “The Texecutioner” highly but is ready to do what he does best come fight night.

“I’m coming up from a down [knockout loss to Geoff Neal]. And I don’t care who you are but you better be ready for blood,” Price added. “Because I’m coming in there to win, eat, get that W. With force. Patient force.”
