UFC heavyweight Josh Hokit has responded to criticism from longtime announcer Bruce Buffer over controversial comments he made at a White House event. Buffer called out Hokit during an appearance on streamer N3ON’s platform for his behavior and remarks.
Buffer specifically criticized Hokit for calling former First Lady Michelle Obama a “man” at UFC White House. The veteran announcer said Hokit can fight but lacks class and respect.
“I think he’s disrespectful, and I’m sorry, Josh, if you’re watching,” Buffer said. “Show some class. The things he said at the White House, I didn’t appreciate that.”
Buffer added that young people today don’t have many role models and suggested fighters should act better. He said society is decaying and people need to improve their behavior.
Bruce Buffer admits he’s not a fan of Josh Hokit outside the octagon 😬
“I don’t like what he talks about. He’s disrespectful. It’s like, show some class. The things he said at the White House, I didn’t appreciate that.

Hokit Questions Role Model Standards
Hokit quickly fired back at Buffer on social media platform X. The 28-year-old fighter pointed out that other UFC fighters have criminal records and serious charges against them.
“I talk trash in the Octagon, but guys on this roster have actual criminal records and rape charges,” Hokit wrote. “I have no criminal record, yet I’m not classy enough?”
Hokit questioned whether fighters should be considered role models at all. He pointed out that fighting is a violent sport where men try to hurt each other.
“You realize we are in the gladiator business, right?” Hokit asked. “Should men who try to kill other men really be your role model?”
The heavyweight fighter appeared frustrated that Buffer hasn’t criticized UFC superstars like Conor McGregor and Jon Jones. Both fighters have criminal records and legal issues.
Buffer did criticize McGregor once in 2018 after he attacked a bus carrying fighters. But the announcer has maintained close relationships with both McGregor and Jones over the years.
Buffer introduces both superstars with his signature “The One. The Only” announcement. He has not publicly called out their criminal behavior in recent years.
Dana White Also Weighs In
UFC CEO Dana White has also said he doesn’t like Hokit’s personality. White addressed the issue again after Hokit’s title fight was announced.
“I don’t have to like you for you to thrive here and for you to do well and be successful,” White said at the UFC 331 post-fight press conference. “I’m not saying that I don’t like Josh Hokit. I literally don’t like anything Josh Hokit says.”
Hokit addressed White’s comments on The Ariel Helwani Show. He claimed that despite what White says publicly, he believes he’s actually the CEO’s favorite fighter.
“Dana is just, you know, he has to say that,” Hokit said. “Deep down, I’m Dana’s favorite fighter, you know what I’m saying? He can’t wait for my fights.”
Hokit explained that he has developed a mindset where he doesn’t care if people like him. He uses his controversial persona to build interest in his fights and stay in the spotlight.
Hokit holds an undefeated 10-0 record. He will challenge Ciryl Gane for the heavyweight championship at UFC 334 on November 14 at Madison Square Garden in New York.
