Luis Francischinelli earned a UFC contract on October 13 with a first-round stoppage of William Rentz at Dana White’s Contender Series Season 10. The victory came during an emotional night as his wife was hospitalized during the fight.
The 30-year-old Brazilian fighter stopped Rentz at 2:18 of the first round at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. Francischinelli improved his record to 7-1 with the victory, while Rentz fell to 8-2.

Rentz opened the fight by immediately securing a takedown with a body lock. Francischinelli defended from his back, threatening a heel hook and landing elbows before returning to his feet.
The Fight-Ending Sequence
After Rentz secured another takedown, Francischinelli quickly stood up again. As Rentz pressed forward, the Brazilian fighter caught him with a counter left hook that dropped him to the canvas.
Francischinelli followed his opponent to the ground and landed ground strikes that forced the referee to stop the fight. The stoppage marked the seventh knockout victory of his career.
UFC CEO Dana White praised the Brazilian during the post-fight contract presentation. “Luis, you’re 7-1 now, you’re 170 pounds, you’re 10 feet tall,” White said, referring to Francischinelli’s unusual 6-foot-6 frame for the welterweight division.
White described Francischinelli as a “fun” addition to the welterweight division. “Another fun guy that I’m excited to watch fight in the UFC. Congratulations,” White added.
Francischinelli became emotional immediately after his victory. He revealed to the audience that his wife was in the hospital during the fight.
After receiving his UFC contract, Francischinelli shared that his wife had been discharged from the hospital. The news came as a relief following his contract-winning performance.
Four Years of Preparation
Francischinelli’s path to the UFC took four years of dedicated training. His coach revealed on Instagram that the fighter joined the gym with limited grappling experience and a dream of competing in the UFC.
“Four years later, seven knockouts and a complete transformation into a well-rounded MMA fighter, he earned his UFC contract,” his coach wrote. The transformation required overcoming multiple obstacles during his journey.
The Brazilian fighter faced injuries throughout his training camp. He also welcomed the birth of his daughter and dealt with unexpected family challenges while preparing for his Contender Series appearance.
“He had every reason not to fight, but he pushed through it all,” his coach added. “Tonight he showed what it means to be a true champion, both inside the cage and in life.”
Francischinelli’s height makes him an unusual fighter for the welterweight division. His 6-foot-6 frame is considered exceptionally tall for the 170-pound weight class.
The Brazilian fighter was one of four athletes who received UFC contracts during Week 10 of the Contender Series. The final episode of Season 10 featured five fights total.
The main event of the evening saw Erick Visconde defeat Ilias Bulaid by unanimous decision. Visconde, who trains with Francischinelli, did not receive a UFC contract despite his victory.
In the co-main event, Smilla Sundell defeated Aline Pereira, who is the sister of UFC star Alex Pereira. Francischinelli now joins the UFC’s 170-pound roster with a debut targeted for early 2027.
